Location
What to expect

The Pan Tadeusz Museum in Wroclaw is a museum of literature in the Pod Złotym Słońcem (Under the Golden Sun) house on the Market Square, a branch of the Ossolineum devoted above all to the work of Adam Mickiewicz. The manuscript of “Pan Tadeusz” belongs to the collections of the Ossoliński National Institute (Zakład im. Ossolińskich), and the museum has been in this house since May 2016.
There are three permanent exhibitions, and one of them, “Pan Tadeusz Różewicz”, is about Tadeusz Różewicz rather than Mickiewicz.
This is not a small display: according to culture.pl in April 2016, the museum has more than 4 thousand square metres of exhibition space, and the main exhibition was to take up 17 rooms.
Visitors rate the museum highly: on Google Maps it has 4.6 out of 5 from 1,643 reviews, and on Tripadvisor 4.4 out of 5 from 55 reviews and 49th place among 479 things to do in Wroclaw (read on 25 October 2026).
Who it suits: readers of Mickiewicz and Różewicz, and anyone curious about a museum devoted above all to a single work. It also works well for visitors with disabilities, because the museum is prepared both for wheelchair users and for blind visitors; details in the tips below.
Who should skip it: anyone not interested in literature, because everything here revolves around books and their authors. Families mainly looking for fun with illusions will be better served by the Museum of Illusions on the Market Square (Rynek 33), with a mirror maze and optical illusions.
How long: allow about an hour and a half, because according to the museum that is how long an average visit takes. Entry is timed: at most 15 people enter the exhibition every quarter of an hour, so when it is busy you may wait for the next slot.
Tips
- Last entry before closing. The permanent exhibitions have last entry at 16:30. Come with time to spare, so that you get through all three exhibitions and not just the first.
- Closed days. The museum is closed on Mondays. Changes to the opening hours and days over the 2026 holidays are given on the “Zaplanuj wizytę” (Plan your visit) page of the museum’s website.
- Tactile route and Braille. A tactile route (tyflościeżka) runs through the whole permanent exhibition, and the ticket price includes a printed guide for blind visitors, in Braille and large print, to collect at the ticket desk.
- A lift everywhere. The building has no architectural barriers and every part of it can be reached by lift. Google Maps also lists a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
- Family ticket and concessions. The family ticket covers two to six people, including at least one over 18 and one under 18, with no more than two adults. Concessions apply to, among others, pupils and students up to the age of 26 and to pensioners. Reduced ticket price: see the practical box; the museum’s price list gives all concessions and free visits, and the museum also takes part in the Nasz Wrocław programme.
- A guide in English. Groups of more than 10 people arrange a date with the museum, and by prior arrangement a guided tour in English, German or Ukrainian is possible. Contact: the Education Section (Sekcja Edukacji), tel. 697 415 815, edukacja@ossolineum.pl .
- A group with visitors with disabilities. Report the visit at least 5 days before the chosen date and you can book a guided tour; the conditions are described on the “Muzeum dostępne” (Accessible museum) page.

Background
The Pod Złotym Słońcem house at Rynek 6, which you enter, has been the museum’s home since May 2016. Gazeta Wrocławska wrote at the time that the first guests would come in on 23 April, the weekend of Wroclaw’s inauguration as UNESCO World Book Capital, and that an open day would be held on 3 May. According to culture.pl, the museum could be visited from 3 May 2016.
The following years brought two changes. In 2019 the museum received a jury commendation of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), and on 9 October 2021 a third permanent exhibition, “Pan Tadeusz Różewicz”, was added. The museum’s tenth anniversary was noted in April 2026 by the Wroclife portal.
