What to expect

The Museum of Illusions Wroclaw is not a museum of collections but an exhibition you test on yourself. Across 400 m2 on Wyspa Piasek (Sand Island), right next to Ostrów Tumski, illusion meets art and scientific inventions, and instead of display cases there are tasks in which you are the one who sets the exhibit in motion.

Among the several dozen exhibits from different fields there are interactive tasks: drawing with light, making shadows and a room in which the world stands upside down. In a report of 2 October 2021, when the museum had only just opened, Radio Wrocław also mentioned play with mirrors, and a guide said that besides the fun there are elements of physics and mathematics here. The museum says it adds new exhibits to the collection every year.

The visit is self-guided, but guides are available throughout the exhibition. Visitors rate the museum highly: on Google Maps it has 4.5 out of 5 from 4356 reviews (read on 25 October 2026).

Who it suits: families with children, organised groups and adults who enjoy finding out how easily their own eyes can be fooled. The museum says it wants to be interesting for people of every age. Children under 14 may visit only with an accompanying adult; older ones may come on their own.

Skip it if you are looking for the history of Wroclaw or old objects in display cases. There is no historical collection here: the exhibits combine illusion, art and scientific inventions, and many of them are tasks that only work once you try them yourself.

How long: allow an hour and a half. According to the museum, guests spend between one hour and an hour and a half here on average, and the visit has no time limit, so with children who want to try every task, plan for the upper end.

Tips

  • Weekdays without the queue. The museum warns that at peak times, that is at weekends and on national holidays, queues may form at the ticket desk. If you have the choice, come on a weekday - the museum is open every day.
  • An online ticket for the weekend. You can always buy a ticket at the desk without booking, but only a ticket bought online guarantees entry at a chosen time. On Saturdays and Sundays the museum stays open longer (on Saturdays 10:00-20:00, on Sundays 10:00-20:00), and that is exactly when a timed ticket saves you waiting.
  • Prices and concessions. Prices: standard ticket 59 PLN (about 13 EUR), reduced 43 PLN (about 10 EUR); the reduced ticket covers school pupils, students and seniors. The price list has separate entries for children under 3, preschoolers, families (two adults and two children, or up to five children with the Karta Dużej Rodziny, the Large Family Card), holders of the “Nasz Wrocław” card, teachers, and people with a disability certificate and their carers. The amounts are in the price list on the museum’s website (linked in the practical information box).
  • Groups of more than 10. Only they have to book a visit; in return they get a discount and a guided tour of about 60 minutes at no extra charge. If you visit on your own, you do not need to book anything.
  • Easy with a wheelchair. The whole 400 m2 exhibition is on the ground floor, so getting around in a wheelchair is no problem. The Google Maps listing also mentions a wheelchair-accessible entrance and toilet.
  • Dogs are welcome. The museum says it is friendly to all four-legged companions, so a walk with your dog on Wyspa Piasek does not rule out a visit.
  • Ask the guides. The visit is self-guided, but there are guides throughout the museum. When an exhibit does not behave the way you expect, ask before you move on.
