23 October 2026 - 15 December 2026
The competition exhibition “RMX. Wroclaw Drawing Triennial 2026” (RMX. Triennale Rysunku Wrocław 2026) shows the work of the competition’s 18 finalists, 23 October 2026 - 15 December 2026 , at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw. It is organised by the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, and the curator of the competition exhibition is Patrycja Sikora.
Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw on the exhibition (our translation of the museum’s Polish text):
We invite you to the competition exhibition of the Wroclaw Drawing Triennial 2026. This year’s edition, held under the motto “RMX”, raises questions about the status of authorship and originality and about the role of drawing in an age of lightning-fast digital revolution and the expansion of artificial intelligence. The exhibition presents works by 18 finalists selected from nearly 380 entries from all over the world.
What to expect
This is not a survey of drawings on paper alone. Alongside drawings, the museum announces site-specific installations, spatial objects, video works, algorithm-generated projections, found objects, and processual and ephemeral works.
A total of 379 people entered the competition, and the jury chose 18 finalists, two of them duos. The jury were Bogna Burska, Sebastian Cichocki, Anna Markowska, Wojciech Pukocz and Jakub Woynarowski. Fewer than one entry in twenty therefore made it into the exhibition.
The works are set in the 15th-century complex of the former Bernardine monastery and church that houses the museum. The curator, Patrycja Sikora, notes that the clash of the museum’s medieval architecture with the newest art underlines the continuity of remix.
The jury’s verdict was announced at the opening on 23 October in the museum. The prize-winning works are a good starting point for your visit:
- “Podlinnik” (2024) by Hubert Czerepok - a cycle of drawings on the pattern of a holy icon, awarded the Grand Prix, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award.
- “Szkice z plaży” (“Sketches from the Beach”, 2026) by Przemek Branas - a work awarded the Mayor of Wroclaw’s Award.
- “Regresja”, “Blackout” and “Stan bez powrotu” (“Regression”, “Blackout”, “Point of No Return”, 2025) by Veljko Vučković - drawings in which the artist turns to the film method of found footage. They won the Rector’s Award of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts.
- Honourable mentions and the Contemporary Lynx Award - honourable mentions went to Tomasz Dobiszewski and to the duo Irmina Rusicka and Kasper Lecnim, and the Contemporary Lynx Award to Anastazja Jarodzka.
Context
The International Drawing Triennial was a competition devoted to drawing, held in Wroclaw from 1965 to 1995 and revived in 1999. According to the Polish Wikipedia, since 1999 the drawing competition of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw has continued this tradition. The same academy organises the 2026 edition.
The sources describe the Triennial’s beginnings differently. The museum writes that the first edition, in 1965, was organised on the initiative of Andrzej Will, Andrzej Lachowicz and Natalia LL. The Polish Wikipedia names Andrzej Will as the initiator, calls Andrzej Lachowicz his long-time collaborator, and Natalia LL a co-creator of the event in the 1970s.
The Triennial and the Museum of Architecture started in the same year: the museum was set up in the former Bernardine monastery in 1965.
Tickets and time
Ticket: the city’s events listing says entry to the exhibition is ticketed. Before you buy, ask at the ticket desk whether the standard museum admission ticket also covers the competition exhibition.
Day without a fee: the museum announces free admission on Wednesdays. Whether this also covers the competition exhibition, check at the Infopunkt (information point) in the entrance hall.
When: the museum is closed on Mondays. On Thursdays and Fridays it opens and closes later than on other days (on Thursdays 12:00-19:00, the same on Fridays), so these are good days for a visit after work. The ticket desk stops selling tickets before the museum closes, so do not come at the last minute.
Where: at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw , ul. Bernardyńska 7, in the former Bernardine monastery. The exhibition space reaches the stairs to the presbytery; directions are on the museum’s profile.
Audience award: until 6 December 2026 you can vote in the museum for a work of your choice. You pick up a voting card at the Infopunkt in the entrance hall, and the ballot box stands in the exhibition space, by the stairs to the presbytery. Voting closes before the exhibition ends, so if you want to cast a vote, come earlier.
Time needed: allow about an hour for the exhibition. It shows the work of 18 finalists, including video works and projections, where you will stay longer than in front of a drawing.
Quiet hours: on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings the museum runs no group tours, and in the exhibitions it lowers the sound and dims the lights. This is a good time if you want to look at the works in peace.
Accessibility: a lift and a ramp in the entrance zone take wheelchair users to the exhibition spaces. The entrances to the two side galleries are not adapted for this.
Who it is for: people interested in contemporary art and in the question of what drawing is in the time of the digital revolution and artificial intelligence. It is also a good survey of the newest drawing in one place, as it shows finalists chosen from 379 entries.
Who can skip it: anyone looking only for classic drawings on paper. Alongside drawings there are installations, video, algorithm-generated projections and ephemeral works.
