What to expect

The Archaeological Museum in Wroclaw is an exhibition about the earliest past, spread over three floors of the medieval Arsenał Miejski (City Arsenal). The museum is a branch of the Wroclaw City Museum (Muzeum Miejskie Wrocławia) and shares the Arsenal with the Military Museum (Muzeum Militariów). According to the Polish Wikipedia, it was founded in 1815.
The permanent exhibition fills three floors of the Arsenal. Among the exhibits you will see bones of mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses and other animals typical of the Ice Age. One of the objects, the Ram from Jordanów (Baran z Jordanowa), has its own audio description, available on the exhibition’s web page. Blind and partially sighted visitors can therefore get to know it before they even arrive at the Arsenal.
Visitors rate the museum highly: on Google Maps it has 4.6 out of 5 from 1638 reviews (read on 25 October 2026).
Who it suits: anyone curious about archaeology and the earliest past, and families with children too. For the youngest, the museum has prepared a family educational trail: illustrated stops in the exhibition explain selected parts of it in an accessible way. Schools can book museum lessons and workshops.
Who should skip it or call first: if you only have the start of the week in Wroclaw, you will not get in, because the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wheelchair users should ask the ticket office about access to the floors before their visit: the museum describes itself as only partly adapted, and the exhibition spans three storeys.
How long: three floors of permanent exhibition are more than a short stop between other sights. Plan an hour to an hour and a half, and with children following the family trail allow extra time for its stops.
Tips
- Holidays and days off. Besides its regular closing days, the museum has announced several additional days in November and December 2026 on which the Archaeological Museum is closed; their dates are in the practical information box. Check it before a visit in that period.
- Free permanent exhibitions. The museum states: free admission on Thursdays. This applies to the permanent exhibitions, so ask at the ticket office about any temporary exhibition.
- New prices since October. Prices changed on 1 October 2026 in all branches of the Wroclaw City Museum; the current prices are: standard ticket 25 PLN (about 6 EUR), reduced 20 PLN (about 5 EUR). The same prices apply at the Town Hall (Ratusz) and the Royal Palace (Pałac Królewski).
- Family and group tickets. A family ticket is for at most two adults with one to five children under 18, and a group ticket is for groups of more than 20 people; their prices are in the museum’s price list.
- The Nasz Wrocław card. The Arsenał Miejski is a partner of the city’s Nasz Wrocław (Our Wroclaw) programme: cardholders with Taxpayer status get 20 percent off, and those with MAX status 30 percent.
- Two museums under one roof. The museum gives its hours and prices jointly for the Archaeological Museum and the Military Museum in the Arsenał Miejski. If you want to see both exhibitions, ask at the ticket office what the ticket covers.
- Groups and schools. Guided tours for groups are available in Polish and in a foreign language; lessons and workshops are charged per pupil, and accompanying adults do not pay. The prices are in the museum’s price list.
- Accessibility. Google Maps lists a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet and parking, while the museum describes itself as partly adapted. It is worth confirming the details by phone with the ticket office: (71) 347-16-96 ext. 300.
