Preanalogue Postdigital. Andrij Bojarov

13 June 2026 - 26 July 2026

Exhibition closed 26 July 2026. This page remains in the archive for reference.

From 13 June to 26 July 2026, the Museum of Photography in Krakow showed nearly a hundred works - single photographs and elaborate sets of images - in Andrij Bojarov’s solo exhibition.

The Museum of Photography in Krakow on the exhibition (translated from the Polish original):

What do we see when images are set into new, unexpected arrangements and detached from their original functions and authors? What happens to their meaning when they begin to operate in new contexts? Andrij Bojarov’s exhibition “Preanalogue Postdigital. Solo Exhibition / Isikunäitus” poses questions about photography as a medium in constant transformation.

The exhibition, comprising nearly 100 objects, consists of both single photographs and elaborate sets of images. Combined into unexpected, often surprising arrangements, they create new contexts and meanings. Bojarov draws on works by various authors - both known and anonymous - film stills, reproductions, archival materials and photocopies sourced from a range of places. By transforming them, he shows that the meaning of an image is not fixed but depends on the context in which it is placed.

Andrij Bojarov - a visual artist, independent curator and researcher of contemporary art - consistently reflects in his work on the status of the image in contemporary culture. The artist describes his works as “secondary reflections” and “copies of copies.” They do not depict reality directly but its traces: fragments, remnants, memories and visual impressions.

What to expect

The exhibition gathered nearly a hundred objects - photographs, film stills, reproductions, archival materials and photocopies by various authors, known and anonymous. Bojarov transformed and recombined them to build new contexts, presenting photography as a medium of secondary reflections and “copies of copies” in which an image’s meaning was never final.

After the show

Andrij Bojarov’s exhibition closed on 26 July 2026. The Museum of Photography in Krakow currently shows “Together. 20 Years of the Sputnik Photos Collective” (closing 13 September 2026), and opens a new solo exhibition, “Zofia Kulik. Instead of Sculpture. Footnotes,” on 2 October 2026 - announced on the museum’s website .

Two currently running exhibitions at MOCAK echo Bojarov’s reflection on image and institution, though pages for them exist in Polish only: “Stan posiadania. Topografia kolekcji MOCAK, część 1” (Polish page, through 18 October 2026), where the museum’s team examines its own collection and institutional condition, and “Ekologie współtworzenia” (Polish page, through 18 October 2026), a year-long site-specific project on the relations of architecture.

No catalogue was found for this exhibition, and no press reviews from its run (13 June - 26 July 2026) turned up in the outlets searched.
