Wytrychowanie / Lockpicking - Piotr Bujak
22 July 2026 - 30 August 2026
From 22 July to 30 August 2026, the Manggha Museum showed the first institutional solo presentation of Piotr Bujak’s work in Krakow, curated by Arata Hasegawa. Active primarily in Japan for nearly a decade, the artist developed an original working model based on reinterpreted Low Budget, Do-It-Yourself, Quick and Dirty and Hit-and-Run strategies.
The Manggha Museum on the exhibition:
Curated by Arata Hasegawa, the exhibition will be the first institutional solo presentation of Piotr Bujak’s work in Kraków. For nearly a decade, the artist was active primarily in Japan - participating, for example, in Tokyo Biennale 2025 - where he continued developing an original working model based on reinterpreted Low Budget, Do-It-Yourself, Quick and Dirty, and Hit-And-Run strategies.
Bujak employs tactics of error, provisionality, improvisation, and the institutional “lockpick,” approaching his activities as tools for negotiating systems of visibility and social codes. His projects operate through an aesthetic of temporariness, examining relationships between everyday structures of reality-making and mechanisms of cultural adaptation.
We sincerely hope that experiencing this show will leave the public inspired.
What to expect
The exhibition brought together works in which Bujak deployed tactics of error, provisionality and improvisation, examining the everyday structures through which reality is organised and the mechanisms of cultural adaptation. It was a concise solo presentation by an artist bridging the Polish and Japanese art contexts, on level -1 of the Manggha Museum’s main building. Coordination: Julia Goin; design: Pilar Rojo.
Context
Low Budget, Do-It-Yourself, Quick and Dirty and Hit-and-Run are terms drawn from the independent art and music scene - describing tactics of working cheaply, outside institutional circuits, fast and without a polished form. Bujak reinterprets them as tools of the visual arts, carrying the aesthetic of provisionality and error into the museum space. His practice moves between Poland and Japan, where he took part in the Tokyo Biennale in 2025.
Tickets and time
The Manggha Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; on Tuesdays admission to all temporary exhibitions is free. The museum’s page does not state a separate ticket price for this show or a visiting time - judging by its single-level location (level -1 of the main building), it was a 20-30 minute show, best suited to visitors interested in contemporary art and Polish-Japanese artistic exchange.
After the show
The exhibition closed on 30 August 2026 and moved to the museum’s Past Exhibitions archive on its website. The museum’s page does not state whether the show is touring elsewhere or list a catalogue for sale in the museum shop.
