Małgorzata Wszołek "Happiness Is High Up" - Painting and Drawing Exhibition

27 August 2026 - 11 October 2026

Exhibition closed 11 October 2026. This page remains in the archive for reference.

Małgorzata Wszołek’s debut painting and drawing show, “Happiness Is High Up”, ran from 27 August to 11 October 2026 in one room of the “Piekarska 2” gallery, the Karwacjan Manor’s temporary home in Gorlice.

Karwacjan Manor Art Gallery in Gorlice on the exhibition (our translation of the museum’s Polish text; the museum has no English page for this exhibition):

We warmly invite you on Thursday, 27 August, at 6:00 PM, to the Piekarska 2 Art Gallery, for Małgorzata Wszołek’s debut opening. The exhibition will be on display until 11 October.

What to expect

The show filled the temporary exhibition room at ul. Piekarska 2 in central Gorlice, the only room at this stand-in venue of the museum. By our estimate, half an hour was enough for an unhurried look at everything, and visitors held by the portraits stayed longer. The artist’s opening took place on 27 August 2026 at 18:00.

The gallery has used this address since 12 February 2026, because the Karwacjan Manor itself, at ul. Wróblewskiego 10A, is closed to visitors while it is modernised. The museum lists the Piekarska 2 room as its temporary exhibition venue until 31 December 2027.

Context

Małgorzata Wszołek has completed the second year of Graphics at the Art Faculty of the Tarnów Academy, in the painting studio of Dr hab. Przemysław Pokrywka, and comes from a family with artistic traditions. Her subject is portraiture and the psychology of the figure, that is, emotions and relations between people, rendered through strong colour contrast and distorted, cubism-inspired form. In 2024 she won the Alfred Długosz Main Prize at the 41st Salon Gorlicki, and in 2025 she showed work in an exhibition of the Gorlice art community at the Karwacjan Manor. Away from painting she competes in field archery (4th place at the Polish Championships in Jaworze); according to the museum, the focus and precision the sport demands shape the composition of her paintings.

Tickets and time

Admission to the room at Piekarska 2 was 10 PLN (regular) or 6 PLN (reduced: school pupils, students, seniors, disabled visitors). On Tuesdays admission to every branch of the museum was free, which made it the cheapest day to visit. The room was open Tuesday to Friday 9:00-17:00, Saturday 11:00-17:00 and Sunday 11:00-15:00, and closed on Mondays. No booking system or timed entry was found.

It was an exhibition for visitors interested in figurative painting, portraiture and drawing, less so for those looking for the sweep of a large show.

What the press says

Updates

After the show

The museum has not said whether the exhibition will travel, and no catalogue was found. The museum has moved the exhibition’s page, with a photo report from the opening by Barbara Zasowska, to its exhibition archive (in Polish).

In the same room at Piekarska 2 the museum is showing Przegląd Jesienny (Autumn Review) from 19 October to 29 November 2026. It brings together work by lecturers and students of the art and design programmes at the Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz. Three exhibitions are running at the museum’s other branches:

Painting and drawing are also on show now at two other museums in the network. Stanisław Fijałkowski. Drawings from Kazimierz at the Vistula Museum in Kazimierz Dolny brings together the artist’s drawings made in Kazimierz and the prints based on them, until 30 November 2026. Janusz Jutrzenka Trzebiatowski - Paintings at the Regional Museum in Krasnystaw shows 26 paintings and four medals by the Kraków artist; the museum has given no closing date.

The local press wrote about the exhibition only around its opening: Sądeckie.pl ran a profile of the artist, and Halo Gorlice a short announcement. No review or report on the exhibition after it opened was found.
