What to expect

Royal Lazienki is the largest park in central Warsaw and the former summer residence of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski. The 76-hectare complex combines an English-style landscape garden with a collection of palaces, pavilions, and sculptures.

The centrepiece is the Palace on the Isle – a neoclassical royal residence set on an artificial lake. The interiors preserve their original 18th-century decor, including the Solomon Room, the Ballroom, and the King’s private apartments with Dutch painting collections. Also worth visiting are the Old Orangery with the Royal Sculpture Gallery and the historic Royal Theatre, one of the few surviving court theatres in Europe.

The park is open daily and free of charge. You can spot Warsaw’s famous peacocks, relax by the water, or attend summer Chopin concerts at the Chopin Monument (Sundays, May-September).

Tips

  • Free Fridays – free admission to museum buildings every Friday (individual visits, ground floor). The park is always free.
  • Chopin concerts at the Chopin Monument take place on Sundays from May to September at 12:00 and 16:00. Free admission.
  • Children 7+ and students up to 26 pay a symbolic 1 PLN for a ticket.
  • The complex is large – comfortable shoes are essential. Allow 2-3 hours for a full visit.
  • There are cafes and benches in the park, so you can combine sightseeing with a picnic.
  • Last entry to buildings is 30 minutes before closing.

Getting there

Public transport: Lazienki Krolewskie stop (buses 116, 166, 180) or Plac Unii Lubelskiej metro station (M1 line, about 10 min walk). Trams 18, 36 to Plac Unii Lubelskiej.

By car: Limited parking on ul. Agrykola and al. Ujazdowskie. On weekends and summer Sundays (concerts), parking is very hard to find.

By bike: Veturilo bike stations at the main entrances. Bikes can also be left inside the park.
