    What to expect

QueerMuseum Warsaw (QueerMuzeum Warszawa) describes itself as a grassroots, open space for encountering the history of LGBTQ+ people and communities. It is run by Lambda Warszawa, Poland’s oldest active LGBTQ+ organization, and collects and shares documents, artifacts, and testimonies - much of it drawn from Lambda’s own archives. The museum’s stated mission is to speak up for what has been forgotten, erased, and silenced.

The core is the permanent exhibition “Oś czasu” (Timeline): a chronological account of LGBTQ+ history in Poland stretching from 1559 to the early 21st century, arranged in eight sections of printed materials, original publications, artifacts in display cases, and audio-video recordings. One practical note: object descriptions live only in the accompanying guidebook, which at the time of writing is available in Polish - non-Polish speakers should budget for that. The roughly 60-square-meter ground-floor space also hosts temporary shows: in summer 2026, “LGBT to MY” displays banners from queer demonstrations of 2009-2020 (through August 31, 2026), and “Przypinki niezgody” (“Pins of Disagreement”) presents around 300 protest pins from the museum’s collections.

This is a small, community-run institution rather than a large multimedia museum - you come for physical traces of a history no other Warsaw museum shows.

    Tips

    • Admission for individual visitors is free (0 PLN, so 0 EUR too). Organized groups can arrange a paid visit by email: kontakt@queermuzeum.pl.
    • Narrow opening windows: Tuesdays 4:00-8:00 PM, Thursdays 5:00-8:00 PM, and Sundays 12:00-4:00 PM only. Plan around these hours - the museum is closed on all other days.
    • Email replies can take several days; the team answers during museum hours.
    • Accessibility: the ground floor holds the permanent exhibition, reception, and a restroom, with automatic doors and a ramp (no handrails). The upper floor is reachable by stairs only.
    • Given the documentary format (publications, archives, testimonies), the museum suits teenagers and adults best.
