What to expect
Pod Okiem Gallery is a contemporary-art exhibition space at ul. Gr贸jecka 79 in Ochota (a residential district roughly 4 km southwest of Warsaw’s city centre). It runs as a branch (filia) of the Ochota Cultural Centre - O艣rodek Kultury Ochoty - a municipal cultural institution. The gallery has been programming exhibitions continuously since 2014.
The programme rotates several times a year and covers painting, graphics, photography and other contemporary-art media. The Ochota Cultural Centre publishes the schedule of upcoming openings and shows on the branch’s page - that’s the most reliable source for what’s currently on view.
This isn’t a commercial gallery or a permanent-collection museum. It’s closer in format to a community-arts exhibition space - a small gallery embedded in the cultural-centre’s wider educational and arts activity in the district. Come here if you want to see a specific show from the current programme or if you’re interested in contemporary art shown outside Warsaw’s main institutional gallery circuit.
Tips
- Check the programme before you visit. Opening hours are set per exhibition - there are no fixed weekly hours. The page oko.com.pl/filia/galeria-pod-okiem lists current events.
- Call if the website isn’t clear. Phone: 22 822 48 70. Cultural Centre staff will give you the opening hours of the current show.
- A branch, not a standalone museum. Pod Okiem operates as a branch of O艣rodek Kultury Ochoty - administratively part of a cultural centre rather than an independent museum. That shapes the format: no tickets, no audio guide, intimate staffing.
- Openings are usually free and public. If you’re as interested in meeting the artists as in seeing the work, time your visit to an exhibition opening.
- Short visit. One exhibition space, 20-40 minutes is enough.
