90/90. Around the Museum

19 June 2026 - 1 February 2027

For its 90th anniversary, the Museum of Warsaw shows 90 objects from its daily work - from its most valuable holdings to ordinary tools visitors normally never see. It is an exhibition about how the museum actually runs and who keeps it going.

Muzeum Warszawy on the exhibition:

June 19, 2026 - February 1, 2027. 25 PLN regular / 18 PLN reduced, free on Thursdays.

On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, the Museum of Warsaw reveals its behind-the-scenes operations, usually inaccessible to visitors. As part of the ‘90/90. Around the Museum’ project, the public will see how one of the capital’s most important cultural institutions functions and will get to know its team.

From June 19, 2026, to February 1, 2027, the Museum of Warsaw will present 90 items related to its daily operations. This narrative will be built from both the most valuable objects and everyday items - seemingly ordinary but essential for the museum’s functioning - architectural details, and even scents.

Visitors will be able to see, among other things, a watering can used to maintain appropriate humidity levels in exhibitions, a ‘clicker’ - a manual visitor counter, a basic tool for exhibition attendants, and an anti-corrosion fabric protecting Warsaw silver from tarnishing.

These are emblems that present our museum in various dimensions, sometimes seriously, sometimes with a wink. The entire team of the Museum of Warsaw participated in their selection. ‘We want to illustrate our history and our daily work in this way,’ say the project curators.

‘90/90’ is a story not only about objects but also about the people who co-created the Museum of Warsaw over decades - from the first post-war employees to the current team of nearly 300 people. Among them are Helena Wrona, the first museum attendant, and Professor Janusz Durko, who led the institution for over half a century.

What to expect

The show presents 90 things tied to how the museum functions: alongside its most valuable objects you will find everyday items, architectural details, and even scents. Among the pieces are a watering can used to keep humidity levels right in the galleries, a “clicker” - the handheld visitor counter that exhibition attendants rely on - and an anti-corrosion fabric that protects Warsaw silver from tarnishing.

It is also a story about the people who built the museum over decades, from the first post-war staff to today’s team of nearly 300. They include Helena Wrona, the museum’s first attendant, and Professor Janusz Durko, who led the institution for over half a century. The whole team helped choose the objects, sometimes seriously, sometimes with a wink.

Tickets, opening hours, and current details are on the Museum of Warsaw website.
