It opened on 24 April 2026 at the Museum of Sport and Tourism in the Olympic Centre in Warsaw. The display is divided into five parts. The story begins with the thirteenth-century Sandomierz chessmen, that is with the beginnings of the game on Polish lands. Visitors then meet outstanding players of the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, such as Szymon Winawer, Jan Herman Zukertort, Dawid Janowski and Akiba Rubinstein. Polish athletes won 26 medals there - 7 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze - taking sixth place in the medal table, the best result in the country’s history. To mark the anniversary, the Museum of Sport and Tourism in Warsaw has prepared an exhibition recalling those events of half a century ago, with particular attention to the achievements of the Polish team and the heroes of those days.museums
