Four Seasons - Mazovia

An exhibition on the Mazovian landscape and how it changes through the seasons, opened 4 September 2026 at the Museum of the Polish Peasant Movement.

What to expect

The exhibition shows Mazovia through the lens of its four seasons - its colours and moods. It is held at the Museum’s seat in the Żółta Karczma. Visiting details are on the Museum of the Polish Peasant Movement’s website.

The museum has not published a list of artists or a count of works. The one concrete clue is the opening invitation: its cover shows “Pejzaż” (Landscape) by Michał Janczuk, painted in 2026 in acrylic on canvas, 50 x 80 cm - an open field of yellow flowers, a line of trees and a flock of birds under a cloudy sky. Context

Mazovia (Mazowsze) is the historical region of central and north-eastern Poland along the middle Vistula; Warsaw sits in it today, but its old capital was Płock. Several centuries of political independence gave the region its own culture.

The museum itself is run by the Mazovian regional government. Rural life and landscape are home ground here: the collection holds paintings by Włodzimierz Tetmajer, Wincenty Wodzinowski, Henryk Szczygliński and Józef Rapacki. Even the building fits the theme - Żółta Karczma (the “Yellow Inn”) was built in the mid-19th century as a roadside inn called “Belle-Vue”, on the Mokotów escarpment. The Italian architect Franciszek Maria Lanci designed it to sit picturesquely in the landscape.

Tickets and time

• Ticket: 4 PLN standard, 2 PLN reduced. The museum lists no separate price for this exhibition; there is a single admission ticket.
• Free entry: every Thursday. Children under 7 also go free, and Large Family Card (Karta Dużej Rodziny) holders pay 1 PLN each.
• Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-15:30 (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM). Organised groups need to book by phone first (+48 22 843 38 76 or +48 22 843 78 73).
• Getting there: the museum is in Służew, in the south of Warsaw, about a 10-minute walk from Wilanowska station on metro line M1. Buses 108, 139, 217, 700, 710 and 724 stop right outside (Dominikańska, request stop).

Who it is for: visitors curious about the Mazovian countryside who want a small, quiet museum well off the tourist track - ideally on a Thursday, when entry is free. It is a weekday-only museum that closes at 15:30, so it does not fit an evening or a weekend plan. If you want a large painting show, phone first to ask about its size, since the museum has not published it.
