The necropolis was located thanks to a police investigation, which made it possible to recover more than a hundred objects from looters. The museum gives neither an opening nor a closing date. The State Archaeological Museum on the exhibition (translated from the Polish original): The exhibition “The Yotvingian Eldorado” presents sensational finds from the 12th and 13th centuries, coming from the richest Yotvingian cemetery, discovered at Krukówek. The necropolis was located thanks to a covert police investigation, which made it possible to secure the site and recover more than 100 priceless objects from looters. The display shows the wealth of the old elites through unique weapons, finely worked ornaments (including the so-called crowns of the dead) and everyday objects. Visitors can learn about the fascinating cremation rite, in which grave goods were deliberately destroyed so that, according to belief, they would be “reborn” together with their owner in the afterlife. The museum opened it to visitors on 2 March 2026 and gives no closing date. The State Archaeological Museum on the exhibition (translated from the Polish original): The objects on display are the finest pieces from the collection of the Department of the Middle Ages and the Archaeology of the Modern Period at the State Archaeological Museum in Warsaw. They are unique works of considerable artistic value from the medieval period, dated between the 6th and the 13th century. Among them are earrings of various types, temple rings, finger rings, bracelets, beads, lunulae, round pendants and pendants in the shape of miniature axes, bells and fish teeth, encolpia, horseshoe brooches and a range of other objects. The artefacts, made of gold, silver, glass and bronze, are shown singly or in sets such as necklaces. They formed the contents of hoards and deposits hidden in the Middle Ages at moments of danger or unrest. One such example is the hoard from the village of Borucin, representing the material culture of the early Middle Ages and a Slavic style.museums
