Museum of Maryjki

Muzeum Maryjek - Ksiuty w środku

Address: ul. Środkowa 14 lok. U2, 03-430 Warsaw
Opening hours: No opening hours published on the museum's site - current hours are posted on its Instagram (@ksiuty_w_srodku_muzeum_maryjek). Check there or call before visiting.

More than 400 Marys in one ground-floor unit on Środkowa street. “Maryjka” is the affectionate Polish diminutive for a small image of the Virgin Mary, and the Museum of Maryjki collects contemporary ones - in its own words “serious and subversive, traditional and utterly unexpected, painted, sculpted, printed, found, and created specifically for us”. The collection lives inside the Ksiuty w środku gallery in Praga-Północ and keeps growing.

This is not a museum of sacred art in the classic sense. It is interested in Mary as a motif in art, popular culture and city space, so pieces that follow traditional iconography sit next to contemporary and very unexpected interpretations. If Praga’s courtyard shrines intrigue you, and you like things that refuse to fit a category, this address is for you.

What to expect

The museum puts the collection at over 400 objects: contemporary, folk, artistic and, as it says itself, “unexpected” depictions. Some were made especially for the museum, others were found. The museum says you do not have to “maintain deadly seriousness” here - the collection is meant to spark curiosity, memories and conversation.

The museum is only part of the place. Ksiuty w środku is an independent culture space that runs exhibitions, concerts of experimental, electronic and improvised music, talks and events about Praga.

The museum’s website doubles as an online shop where some objects, paintings and figurines on the Marian theme, are for sale. Those are prices of objects, not of entry - the museum publishes no admission prices.

Tips

  • The museum’s site has no opening hours (as of 3 October 2026). It points to its Instagram (@ksiuty_w_srodku_muzeum_maryjek). Check it before you set off, or call +48 510 955 663.
