Museum in the Factory (FSO Motor Museum)
Muzeum w Fabryce - Muzeum Motoryzacji i Zabytków Techniki Miałem Kiedyś Takiego
Location
What to expect
The Museum in the Factory sits exactly where a Polish motoring museum belongs: on the grounds of the former FSO car plant at ul. Jagiellońska 88 in Żerań, on Warsaw’s right bank. For half a century these halls turned out the cars of communist Poland - the Warszawa, the Syrena, the Polski Fiat 125p, the Polonez. The site is now being redeveloped as F.S.O. PARK, and the factory’s memory is kept alive by the Foundation for the Protection of Industrial and Technical Heritage (Fundacja Ochrony Zabytków Przemysłu i Techniki), which runs the museum under its full Polish name “Miałem Kiedyś Takiego” - “I once had one of those”.
The name is the point. The museum states a collection of more than 300 vehicles - cars, motorcycles and bicycles - plus period interiors, decorations and everyday objects lifted straight out of the Polish People’s Republic. Do not expect a polished classic-car showroom: this is an industrial hall full of machines that Polish visitors remember from their own courtyards and family holidays, and that foreign visitors will recognise from every Cold War film ever made.
The other star exhibit is the original scale model of the FSO plant: 2 by 6 metres, built entirely on a steel frame and weighing roughly half a tonne. It was most likely begun in the mid-1970s, at the factory’s peak, and updated over the decades; modeller Marcin “Cichy” Cichocki restored it in August 2024, uncovering a builder’s signature reading “Marek 1986” in the process. If you want to grasp the sheer scale of the Żerań works, this is the best map you will find.
Tips
- Open Sundays only, 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. Other times strictly by prior arrangement - email muzeumwfabrycefso@gmail.com.
- Tickets are booked online through the biletomat.pl system linked from the official site. Prices are not published on the museum’s website - check them when booking.
- Capacity can be limited: for the 2026 Night of Museums, timed entry passes (100 people per hour) were fully claimed before the event. Book ahead for busy weekends.
- This is a post-industrial site under redevelopment - wear comfortable shoes and do not expect the visitor infrastructure of a city-centre museum.
Getting there
The museum is at ul. Jagiellońska 88 in Żerań (Pelcowizna, Praga-Północ district), on the former FSO factory grounds - about 6 km north of the Old Town, on the right (east) bank of the Vistula. Trams and buses run along ul. Jagiellońska to stops in the Żerań FSO area; by car, approach from the S8 expressway (Trasa Toruńska) or ul. Modlińska. Allow 20-30 minutes from central Warsaw.
