Location
What to expect
A small artist-run gallery at ul. Schroegera 74 in Bielany (a residential district roughly 8 km north of Warsaw’s city centre). This is the working space of painter Magdalena Kobierecka herself - two rooms, around 100 works (40-50 on the walls, the rest in display cases and storage), no admission charge, no tour guide. When you visit, you’ll often meet the artist directly.
Magdalena Kobierecka is a Warsaw-based painter and printmaker. Her main medium is Vitrosgrafia - her own signature technique of painting on glass with sgraffito elements - alongside canvases and works on paper. The gallery is both her studio and exhibition space, so beside the standing display you may catch a temporary show by the artist or invited guests.
This isn’t a substitute for Zacheta - National Gallery of Art or the Museum of Modern Art, which run curated programmes with rotating exhibitions. Come here if you’re specifically interested in Kobierecka’s work, or if you want to see how an independent artist-run space operates outside Warsaw’s institutional gallery circuit.
Tips
- Friday 16:00-20:00 and Saturday-Sunday 12:00-18:00 - the fixed walk-in hours, no appointment needed.
- Tuesday-Thursday - by appointment only (no fixed hours). Contact the gallery through https://www.magdalenakobierecka.com before you visit on these days. Without an appointment the door stays closed.
- Free admission.
- Allow 20-30 minutes for the visit itself - longer if you end up talking with the artist.
- This is not a conventional museum with wall texts beside every piece. Come with an open mind and questions rather than an audio guide.
- Accessibility: the gallery is wheelchair accessible - just two low steps at the entrance and wide doors (confirmed by the owner). It is all on one level, so no elevator is needed.
