What to expect

A small artist-run gallery at ul. Schroegera 74 in Bielany (a residential district roughly 8 km north of Warsaw’s city centre). According to the gallery’s website, this is the working space of painter Magdalena Kobierecka herself - one room, a handful of works on the walls at any time, no admission charge, no tour guide. When you visit, you’ll often meet the artist directly.

Magdalena Kobierecka is a Warsaw-based painter and printmaker. Her work - paintings, graphics, works on paper - sits at the edge of figuration and subtle abstraction. The gallery functions both as her studio and her exhibition space.

This isn’t a substitute for Zacheta - National Gallery of Art or the Museum of Modern Art, which run curated programmes with rotating exhibitions. Come here if you’re specifically interested in Kobierecka’s work, or if you want to see how an independent artist-run space operates outside Warsaw’s institutional gallery circuit.

Tips

  • Friday 16:00-20:00 - the only walk-in window. Four hours, once a week.
  • Tuesday-Thursday 16:00-20:00 - by appointment only. Contact the gallery through https://www.magdalenakobierecka.com before you visit on these days. Without an appointment the door stays closed.
  • Free admission.
  • Allow 20-30 minutes for the visit itself - longer if you end up talking with the artist.
  • This is not a conventional museum with wall texts beside every piece. Come with an open mind and questions rather than an audio guide.
