Location
What to expect
A private blacksmith museum tucked away on the edge of Dolinka Służewiecka – a wooden house from another era, surrounded by tower blocks and a busy road. The Gałecki family has run the place since the 1990s; it is currently operated by blacksmith Kamil Gałecki. This is not an institution with a budget – it is one family’s passion, and that is precisely what makes a visit here special.
On the grounds stands a traditional early 20th-century wooden smithy. Inside: a double-chambered blacksmith bellows, grinding stone, vises, anvils and the full arsenal of tools that once equipped every village in Poland. Outside: antique agricultural and gardening machines. The museum also hosts occasional exhibitions of sculpture and painting related to the blacksmith craft.
The highlight is the live forging demonstrations – Mr Gałecki drives in specially from his workshop in Piaseczno and demonstrates the craft in person. You can book demonstrations for corporate or school groups.
Tips
- Call before you visit. The museum operates by appointment – do not show up without phoning first (602 118 616 or 606 182 404). The owner travels from Piaseczno specifically for visitors.
- Forging demonstrations are the best way to experience this place, especially for groups. Book well in advance.
- Uneven terrain. The museum is a yard with grass, gravel and old buildings – wheelchairs and pushchairs will struggle.
- Free entry for individual visitors is possible – but consider booking a group demonstration to support the place financially. As one visitor wrote: “this is what a true sense of mission looks like.”
- The location looks unlikely – GPS will get you there, but the surroundings do not look like a museum. Trust the navigation.
Getting there
