What to expect

Apteka Sztuki Gallery is a contemporary-art exhibition space at al. Wyzwolenia 3/5 in Śródmieście, near plac Politechniki in central Warsaw. The programme covers painting, graphics, photography and other contemporary-art media, with the show rotating several times a year.

The gallery operates within a Zakład Aktywności Zawodowej (ZAZ) - a Polish form of employment for people with disabilities. That makes it two things at once: a contemporary-art venue and a workplace built around a social mission. Part of the gallery staff are employed through the ZAZ arrangement, so the visitor experience naturally includes contact with them.

This isn’t a commercial sales gallery or a permanent-collection museum. It’s closer to an independent exhibition space with a distinctive identity - art and a social-employment role sharing the same room. Come here if you want to see the current show from the programme, or if you’re interested in how a gallery can combine artistic and community-employment work.

Tips

  • Free admission. No tickets, no reservation needed - walk in during opening hours.
  • Regular weekly hours. Monday-Friday 10:00-17:00, Saturday 12:00-17:00. Closed Sunday. That kind of fixed schedule is unusual for an independent Warsaw gallery.
  • Check the current programme before you visit. The site aptekasztuki.eu lists the current show and upcoming openings. If you’re coming for a specific piece, make sure it’s actually on display.
  • Short visit. One exhibition space - 20-40 minutes is enough.
  • Social-mission context. Operating within a Zakład Aktywności Zawodowej is uncommon for Warsaw galleries - if you specifically want venues with a clear social purpose, this is one of the few in that format.

Getting there

Address: al. Wyzwolenia 3/5, Warszawa, Śródmieście.

Metro: Politechnika station (M1, red line) - a few minutes’ walk. Plac Politechniki is the orientation point; the gallery is just off the square, on al. Wyzwolenia.

Tram: Lines running through plac Politechniki (e.g. 4, 18, 35) stop right next to the gallery.

Bus: Several ZTM city-bus lines run along al. Wyzwolenia and ul. Marszałkowska. Check the closest stop on your route via the ZTM journey planner (jakdojade.pl or wtp.waw.pl).

By car: Śródmieście is inside Warsaw’s paid parking zone (SPPN) on weekdays, and on-street parking around plac Politechniki is tight. Public transport is the easier option.
