Night of Museums Warsaw 2026 with Kids - Best Family Programs

Night of Museums sounds like a grown-up affair - late hours, crowds, queues. In practice, Saturday May 16, 2026 is one of the few evenings in the year when your kid gets free access to programs unavailable any other day: humanoid robots at the Copernicus Science Centre, a night helicopter simulator, blacksmith demos, outdoor chess with a grandmaster.

This guide picks 8 museums with confirmed family programs, tells you when to arrive (the 16:00-19:00 window matters more than anything else), and lays out a 4-hour route that fits between afternoon snack and younger-kid bedtime.

Want to build your own route? All 8 museums from this guide are on the Night of Museums 2026 Planner - reorder, add more, share with friends.

Phase 1 Strategy: 16:00-19:00

Night of Museums in Warsaw splits into two phases. From 18:00-19:00 the main wave of visitors arrives and crowds stay heavy until midnight. Earlier hours are calmer - shorter queues, more space at exhibits, calmer kid.

Phase 1 (16:00-19:00) is the golden three hours for families. Four museums open before 18:00:

For kids under 7, plan to end the evening by 19:00-20:00. Older kids (8+) can last until 22:00-23:00.

8 museums with confirmed family programs

1. Copernicus Science Centre

ul. Wybrze偶e Ko艣ciuszkowskie 20 | 16:00-? | free | ages 3+

The only evening of the year when Copernicus is free. 2026 program: interactions with humanoid robots Ameca and Kopernik, controlling the robotic dog Sirius, the “Poisons. Superpowers of Nature” exhibition with venomous animals, upgraded Planetarium shows.

鈿狅笍 Critical tip: At peak (18:00-21:00), queues reach 2 hours. Arrive at 16:00, no later. If you have kids, Copernicus is the first stop of the evening, not the last.

The Bzzz! Zone (ages up to 6) stays open and is the most sought-after space for families with toddlers.

2. Museum of Polish Military Technology

ul. Powsi艅ska 13 (Fort IX Czerniak贸w) | 16:00-23:00 | free | ages 5+

The most spectacular kids’ program in the city. Model-making workshops for children 17:30-19:30 (led by instructors), terrain game 18:00-19:00, military dog training demo. Historic tank engine start-ups - T-34, Sherman, ISU-122 (16:30-17:00 and 21:00-21:30 - deafening but unforgettable).

Later highlight: night Mi-2 helicopter simulator, 21:30-23:00 - suitable for ages 10+.

Tank and plane interiors (T-55, MiG 21, AN-2, Mi-2) stay open all evening.

3. Polish Army Museum

Pl. Gwardii Pieszej Koronnej (Citadel) | 16:00-22:00 | free | ages 4+

Big venue with a kids’ corner and virtual shooting range, the “Soldiers of General Anders” terrain game (for older kids, 8+), soldier-song concerts. Paramilitary happenings in the courtyard.

鈿狅笍 Hours warning: Closes at 22:00 - the only museum on this list that does. Arrive by 19:00 or you won’t fit it in.

4. Museum of Polish History

ul. Gwardii 1 (Citadel) | 18:00-00:00 | free (tickets from muzhp.pl) | ages 6+

The new building opened in 2024. 2026 family program: “Kaleidoscope of Changes” family art workshops 18:00-22:00, terrain game through the building (18:00-22:00), “Citadel at Night” flashlight walks at 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00. For older kids: the documentary “Tales of the Round Table” every hour.

Tip: Free tickets on muzhp.pl - reserve before visiting, the museum fills up fast.

5. Museum of Sport and Tourism

ul. Wybrze偶e Gdy艅skie 4 (Olympic Centre) | 18:00-00:00 | free | ages 6+

2026 theme: chess. Outdoor chess for ages 6-10, chess puzzles for ages 10-15 in front of the museum. Simultaneous chess with grandmaster Agnieszka Brustman (100 years of the Polish Chess Federation).

Sports in motion: rowing simulator with Olympic medallist Kajetan Broniewski, Polish Aero Club glider simulator, boccia tournament. Food truck in front of the museum - the only one on the Citadel route.

6. Warsaw Fire Brigade Education Centre (Praga)

ul. Marcinkowskiego 2 | 18:00-23:00 | free | ages 4+

A lesser-known museum with a surprisingly strong kids’ program: a mobile danger simulator (designed for kids - shows what to do in case of fire or smoke), an exhibition of historic fire trucks from the 19th/20th centuries, rescue equipment, history of the Warsaw Fire Brigade. Film screenings.

One of the few occasions to step inside a vintage fire truck. Getting there: tram 4, 23, 26 to D膮br贸wka stop.

7. Museum of Modern Art

Central Square (Marsza艂kowska) | 20:00-00:30 | free | ages 3+

MSN’s new building next to the Palace of Culture (opened autumn 2024). Family program: perception paths for kids ages 3-6 and separate paths for ages 7-13 - guided routes through permanent exhibitions with age-appropriate tasks.

Tip: A good end-of-evening stop for families with younger kids - easy to reach from the centre, the 3-6 path takes about 30-40 minutes.

8. Wilan贸w Palace

ul. St. Kostki Potockiego 10/16 | 17:00-23:00 | free | ages 8+

Monumental 3D mapping on the baroque facade at 20:30, 21:30 and 22:30 - a spectacle kids will remember. Calligraphy workshops for families 8+, bat-themed park walks (max 30 people).

Note: Wilan贸w is far from the centre. Free bus line B runs 17:00-01:00 - details on the museum’s website. For families with small kids, better as a warm-evening outing than a rushed visit.

What to skip with small kids

Not every NM museum is kid-friendly - some are actively wrong for children:

Stick instead to the Citadel cluster, science/tech route, and MSN.

Practical tips for parents

Strollers: Copernicus, MSN, Polish History Museum and Wilan贸w Palace are fully accessible. Smaller museums (Fire Brigade, Military Technology - vehicle interiors) can be cramped. For toddlers: consider a baby carrier over a stroller in crowds.

Food: The food truck in front of the Sports Museum is the most convenient option around the Citadel. Pack sandwiches, water and fruit - museum cafes have tourist prices and limited menus. A blood-sugar crash at 19:00 ends the evening.

Toilets: All major museums have accessible toilets. The smallest (Fire Brigade, Pharmacy, Polish Army Museum late evening) can have queues - use them right after entering.

Parking: Only the Museum of Polish Military Technology and Fire Brigade Centre have convenient parking. Citadel and Powi艣le - don’t count on a spot. Taxi/Uber or public transport.

Noise-cancelling headphones: If your kid is sound-sensitive, pack them. Engine start-ups at the MTW, concerts at the Polish Army Museum, the crowd at Copernicus - all can be intense.

Fallback plan: Pick 2 museums as must-see, 2 as backup. Better to see two calmly than three in a rush with a tired child.

Costs: All listed museums are free during Night of Museums. Budget only for transit (roughly 30-50 PLN) and food (50-80 PLN for a family of four).
