Route Recommended by Warsaw Insider - Night of Museums 2026
The editors of Warsaw Insider - an English-language lifestyle magazine about Warsaw - have curated their own 9-museum route for Night of Museums 2026 (May 16-17) in their May issue. The selection is bold: from neon signs making their first Night of Museums appearance inside the Palace of Culture, through flashlight tours at the Doll House Museum, to heavyweight names (POLIN, National Museum, Warsaw Rising Museum, MSN).
This guide is an expanded Polish-and-English companion to their route, with exact hours, a map, a timeline and practical tips. The editorial content - taglines and descriptions - was originally written by the Warsaw Insider editorial team and is quoted here with attribution.
Want to plan this route on a map? All 9 museums are pre-loaded in the Night of Museums 2026 Planner - reorder, add more museums, share with friends.
Reality check: 9 museums in a single Night of Museums is a lot - the event typically runs 6-7 hours (7:00 PM-2:00 AM), which leaves under 30 minutes per museum including travel. Pick 5-6 from this list and save the rest for future years. Below we offer both the full 9-museum route and a condensed 5-museum option for people who actually want to visit, not just tick boxes.

Suggested Evening Plan (full 9-museum route)
Start 18:30 - Doll House, Games and Toys Museum, Podwale 15. Why first? Because it offers a reserved flashlight tour 18:00-21:30 - you need to be there early to catch the evening slot. Telephone reservation is required.
19:30-20:00 - Museum of Warsaw, Rynek Starego Miasta 28 (300 metres from the Doll House Museum). A quick visit - queues build up, as Insider writes: “one of the city’s busiest locations”. The earlier, the better.
20:00-20:45 - Warsaw Rising Museum, Grzybowska 79. 15 minutes by tram (3, 6, 20) to Rondo Daszy艅skiego. Budget 45 minutes - Insider warns: “allow extra time, there is a lot to take in, and queues can be substantial”.
20:45-21:30 - POLIN, Anielewicza 6. 10 minutes by tram (17 or 35) to Muran贸w. 2026 theme: Words and Sounds - concerts, curated gallery tours, tango performances. Insider recommends: the English-language tour at 20:15 (just before our slot - if you want, swap the order and start here).
21:30-22:00 - Life-in-PRL Museum, Pi臋kna 28/34. Tram 18 or bus to 艢r贸dmie艣cie Po艂udniowe. Insider: “Social history with personality” - a good spot after the heavy topics of POLIN and the Rising, more nostalgic, less intense.
22:00-22:30 - National Museum, Al. Jerozolimskie 3. 10 minutes on foot. Insider: “Head straight to the galleries you most want to see” - instead of trying to see everything, pick the two rooms you’ve always meant to revisit.
22:30-23:00 - Museum of Modern Art, Marsza艂kowska 103. 500 metres on foot. Insider warns: “expect a fashionable crowd and some of the longest queues of the evening. Arrive early or go after 22:00”. That is exactly why we time it late.
23:00-23:30 - Palace of Culture and Science, Plac Defilad. Next door to MSN. Insider: “Go near closing time for shorter waits” - which is exactly what we are doing. Viewing terrace, exhibitions, nighttime city views.
23:30-01:00 - Neon Museum (special NM location inside the Palace of Culture). Close the night with iconic Cold War-era neons. Insider: “Excellent second stop after the viewing terrace”.
Condensed Route (5 museums, about 4 hours)
For those who want to actually look at exhibits, not sprint between them.
19:00-19:45 - Warsaw Rising Museum (budget time - this one is worth it) 20:00-20:45 - POLIN (tram, 10 min) 21:00-21:30 - Life-in-PRL Museum 21:45-22:15 - Museum of Modern Art (past the first rush) 22:30-23:30 - Neon Museum inside the Palace of Culture to finish
Four thematic jumps (history - Jewish culture - PRL - contemporary art - design) and one icon for the finale.
The Museums - with Warsaw Insider’s Notes
1. Neon Museum (Muzeum Neon贸w) - NEW THIS YEAR
Special NM location inside the Palace of Culture | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: “One of Warsaw’s cult attractions makes its first Night of Museums appearance inside the Palace of Culture and Science. Dedicated to preserving Cold War-era neon signs, it mixes design history with cinematic nostalgia.”
Insider tip: Excellent second stop after the viewing terrace.
The Neon Museum (normally located in Praga-Po艂udnie) takes part in Night of Museums for the first time this year, with a pop-up exhibition inside the Palace of Culture. A collection of Cold War-era neon signs: shopfronts, cinemas, bars. Photogenic, intimate, one of a kind in the world.
2. Palace of Culture and Science (Pa艂ac Kultury i Nauki) - BEST FOR KIDS
Plac Defilad 1 | evening | free entry to terrace and exhibitions
Warsaw Insider editors: “Though not strictly a museum, the Palace becomes a Noc Muze贸w magnet thanks to exhibitions, events and the famous viewing terrace. Free nighttime skyline views make this a perennial favorite.”
Insider tip: Go near closing time for shorter waits.
On Night of Museums the Palace is mainly about the viewing terrace (30th floor, free nighttime views of Warsaw) and themed exhibitions. For a first visit to Warsaw it is a must.
3. Museum of Modern Art (Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej) - NEW AND ESSENTIAL
Marsza艂kowska 103 | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: “Warsaw’s flagship contemporary art institution is one of the city’s defining cultural projects. Known for ambitious exhibitions, cutting-edge installations and international programming, it captures the energy of a fast-changing capital. During Noc Muze贸w, expect a fashionable crowd and some of the longest queues of the evening.”
Insider tip: Arrive early or go after 22:00.
MSN’s new building on Plac Defilad opened in 2024, architecture by Thomas Phifer + Partners. Night of Museums is the first in this venue - long queues guaranteed. If this is your first MSN visit, budget an extra 30 minutes just to appreciate the architecture.
4. National Museum (Muzeum Narodowe) - OLD MASTER APPEAL
Al. Jerozolimskie 3 | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: “A cornerstone of Polish culture, everything from ancient artefacts and decorative arts to iconic Polish paintings. Grand in scale and rich in treasures, it remains one of the city’s essential cultural institutions.”
Insider tip: Head straight to the galleries you most want to see.
The National Museum is impossible to tour in full on Night of Museums - 830,000 objects. Pick one gallery (ancient art? Faras? Matejko? 19th-20th century Polish art?) and treat the visit as a sampler. The rest is for another day.
5. Life-in-PRL Museum (Muzeum 呕ycia w PRL) - THE CAPSULE
Pi臋kna 28/34 | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: "[Time] capsule [of PRL-era Poland] - social history with personality."
Insider tip: Great for visitors looking for something different.
A small, independent museum in a townhouse on Pi臋kna Street. Full of everyday objects from the PRL era - typewriters, radios, posters, clothing. Run by enthusiasts, not the state. A warm place to land after the heavier topics of the Rising or POLIN.
6. POLIN - WHAT TO SPOTLIGHT
Mordechaja Anielewicza 6 (Muran贸w) | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: “One of Europe’s most acclaimed museums, POLIN explores a thousand years of Jewish life in Poland through immersive galleries and superb design. This year’s Night of Museums theme, Words and Sounds, brings concerts, guided tours, tango performances and language-focused events to the museum’s spaces.”
Insider tip: Don’t miss the English-language tour at 20:15.
POLIN - European Museum of the Year 2016, a thousand years of Polish-Jewish history in seven immersive galleries. On NM 2026: concerts, tango performances, themed tours (including in English), events dedicated to the Yiddish language. One of the most awarded museums in Europe.
7. Warsaw Rising Museum (Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego) - HISTORY COMES ALIVE
Grzybowska 79 (Wola) | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: “One of Warsaw’s most powerful and immersive museums, dedicated to the 1944 uprising against Nazi occupation. Through multimedia exhibitions, personal testimonies, photographs and original artefacts, it captures the courage, tragedy and spirit of the city during one of its defining moments. An essential visit for understanding modern Warsaw.”
Insider tip: Allow extra time - there is a lot to take in, and queues can be substantial.
The Rising Museum is not just 1944 history - it is an emotional experience. Multimedia, a communications bunker, a B-24 bomber replica, original artefacts. Open late on Night of Museums, but enormously popular - 45-60 minutes is the minimum. If this is your first visit, consider a proper separate day and just a short preview tonight.
8. Museum of Warsaw (Muzeum Warszawy) - EXPECT LONG LINES
Rynek Starego Miasta 28 | from 19:00 | free entry
Warsaw Insider editors: “Spread across restored townhouses on the Old Town Market Square, this museum explores the identity of Warsaw through objects, photographs and stories. One of the city’s smartest museums in one of its busiest locations.”
Insider tip: Come late in the evening, when the Old Town crowds thin out.
11 townhouses on the Old Town Market Square, the “Things of Warsaw” exhibition - 7,000 objects spanning 700 years of city history. The architecture alone is an attraction.
9. Doll House, Games and Toys Museum (Muzeum Domk贸w Lalek, Gier i Zabaw) - HIDDEN TREASURE + NIGHT WITH FLASHLIGHTS
Podwale 15 (Old Town) | 18:00-21:30 | free entry, telephone reservation required
Warsaw Insider editors: “One of Warsaw’s most charming hidden cultural treasures, tucked away on Podwale Street in the Old Town. Far more than a nostalgic toy museum, it presents history, craftsmanship and everyday life through over 150 historic miniature interiors and a remarkable collection of dolls and games from around the world. Intimate, original and endlessly detailed, it appeals as much to adults as to children.”
Insider tip: Reserve ahead for the evening flashlight tour.
IMPORTANT: Night tour with flashlights 18:00-21:30 - a mysterious atmosphere where “the doll houses and their inhabitants may or may not appear” (from the museum’s official invitation). Telephone reservation required from May 1, 2026. Limited seats.
Practical Tips
Public transport: Trams and buses on Night of Museums run additional services (lines marked N and M - see ZTM). Metro M1 and M2 run longer than usual. Jakdojade and Moovit are your best companions that evening.
Parking: By car - the Plac Defilad underground car park (paid) is the central option. Old Town, Muran贸w, Wola: do not count on spots within 500 m of any museum.
ID: Some state museums (e.g. the Palace of Culture) run security checks at the door - keep your ID handy.
Reservations: The Doll House Museum requires a telephone reservation. The other 8 museums have open entry, but queues at MSN and the Museum of Warsaw can be long.
Food: Plac Defilad, Hala Koszyki, the Old Town Market Square - each area has late-night options.
