Night of Museums Warsaw 2026 - Transport, Metro and Special Bus Lines

Night of Museums in Warsaw is one of three nights a year when the city’s public transport runs differently. ZTM (Warsaw Transit Authority) launches eight special museum lines (A, B, C, D, E, F, M, R), metro M1 and M2 run until 2:30 AM, and selected trams and buses operate with extended hours and increased frequency.

For anyone planning to see three or four museums in one evening, a good transport plan is the difference between a full programme and an evening spent in a taxi.

This guide collects every special line, hour and practical tip in one place. ZTM publishes some details only in the final week before the event - if you’re reading this before May 10, also check ztm.waw.pl and nocmuzeow.um.warszawa.pl for last-minute updates.

Planning a specific route? All museum opening hours and locations for Night of Museums 2026 are in the planner - drag museums into the order you want to visit and the planner will show distances between them.

Museum Lines at a Glance

Eight ZTM lines launched specifically for Night of Museums. All run free of charge during Night of Museums hours (from approximately 18:00 until midnight or later, depending on the line).

Three lines use vintage rolling stock (A, D, M, R - “Ikarus” buses and “og贸rek” trams) - the ride itself is part of the attraction. If you have a child or are a fan of urban transit, plan one short ride on each.

Metro - the Backbone of Night of Museums

M1 (north-south) and M2 (east-west) run extended until approximately 2:30 AM. Frequency: every 7.5 minutes until 1:00 AM, then every 15 minutes until close.

The fastest and most reliable transport this night. Single ticket: 4.40 PLN (ZTM network). 75-minute ticket: 4.80 PLN. 24-hour ticket: 18 PLN.

Key stations for Night of Museums:

Tip: After 1:00 AM, intervals widen to 15 minutes. If your evening ends in Praga or Wilan贸w, check the last return trip in Jakdojade - don’t leave it until 2:00.

Special Lines - Details

Line A - Vintage Bus in Mokot贸w

Route (loop): Woronicza Depot - Woronicza - Wo艂oska - Ody艅ca - Krasickiego - Woronicza Depot.

A short, local run by vintage Ikarus around the Woronicza depot. Nearest metro station: Wierzbno (M1). The line serves the Transit Festival programme at the depot itself - it’s not a convenient connection to other museums.

When it makes sense: If you’re going to the depot programme or simply want to ride a vintage Ikarus.

Line B - Free Connection to Wilan贸w

Route: Emilii Plater (downtown) - Al. Niepodleg艂o艣ci - Wilan贸w (return).

This is the most important museum line by reach. Wilan贸w is the most distant Night of Museums cluster (Wilan贸w Palace + John Paul II Museum), and standard transit requires a transfer. Line B runs direct and is free of charge.

When it makes sense: Anyone planning to see the 3D mapping show on Wilan贸w Palace facade (20:30, 21:30, 22:30) or the John Paul II Museum (until 0:00).

Line C - Downtown to 艁azienki

Route: Emilii Plater - Central Station - downtown - 艁azienki Royal Park.

In 2026 艁azienki opens seven buildings (Palace on the Isle, Old Orangery, My艣lewicki Palace, White House + 3 more). The largest museum complex of the night, and standard transit to 艁azienki gets unreliable during peak Night of Museums hours.

When it makes sense: If 艁azienki is on your route and you start or finish near downtown.

Line D - Vintage Bus, Old Town and Praga (loop)

Route (loop): Emilii Plater 02 - Twarda - Pl. Grzybowski - Kr贸lewska - Marsza艂kowska - Pl. Bankowy - Al. Solidarno艣ci - 艢l膮sko-D膮browski Bridge - Targowa - 11 Listopada - Stalowa - Szwedzka 05 - Kosmowskiej - Grodzie艅ska - Radzymi艅ska - Z膮bkowska - Targowa - Al. Solidarno艣ci - 艢l膮sko-D膮browski Bridge - Pl. Bankowy - Marsza艂kowska - Kr贸lewska - Pl. Grzybowski - Twarda - Emilii Plater 01.

The most interesting museum line by route: starts downtown, crosses the Old Town, crosses the Vistula and loops around Praga (Stalowa, Szwedzka, Z膮bkowska). Operated by vintage Ikarus.

When it makes sense: If you’re visiting Old Town and Praga in one evening, line D saves you two transfers. The loop itself is also an attraction: you’ll see downtown, the Vistula bridges, Stalowa tenements and the Z膮bkowska atmosphere in one ride.

Line E - Downtown, Old Town, Muran贸w

Route: Emilii Plater 02 - Twarda - Pl. Grzybowski - Kr贸lewska - Pl. Pi艂sudskiego - Focha - Moliera - Senatorska - Miodowa - Pl. Krasi艅skich - 艢wi臋tojerska - Anielewicza - Esperanto 04.

The simplest and most “museum-focused” route. Connects downtown, Pl. Pi艂sudskiego (the parade at 16:45 starts nearby), Old Town (Miodowa, Pl. Krasi艅skich) and POLIN (Anielewicza). This is the line for someone who wants to see Museum of Warsaw + Citadel Museum X Pavilion + POLIN without counting bus stops.

When it makes sense: Old Town + Muran贸w route. The closest thing to a “museum walk” offering.

Line F - Downtown, Powi艣le, 呕oliborz

Route: Emilii Plater - Wybrze偶e Ko艣ciuszkowskie - Wybrze偶e Gda艅skie - Wybrze偶e Gdy艅skie - Pl. Wilsona.

Riverside route along the left bank. Passes Copernicus Science Centre, the University Library (BUW), Museum of Modern Art (Powi艣le) and ends at 呕oliborz (Pl. Wilsona). From there it’s a short walk to the Citadel.

When it makes sense: Powi艣le (Copernicus Centre, Museum of Modern Art) + Citadel route. Also: if you want to start at Pl. Wilsona and head toward downtown.

Line M - Vintage Tram in Praga

Route (loop): Praga Depot - Metro P艂ocka - Praga Depot.

Operated by vintage tram (“og贸rek”). 2026 is the centenary of Praga Depot, and the depot is one of the Night of Museums venues (hall tours, orchestra concert at 20:00). Line M runs from downtown (Metro P艂ocka, M1) directly to the depot gate.

When it makes sense: Praga Depot Tram Festival + a vintage tram ride (an attraction in itself).

Line R - Access to the Vintage Vehicle Parade

Route: Metro Wilanowska 16 - Al. Wilanowska - Pu艂awska - Woronicza - Woronicza Depot 02.

A short shuttle from Metro Wilanowska to the Woronicza Depot (where the Transit Festival takes place and the vintage vehicle parade at 16:45 is formed). Operated by vintage Ikarus.

When it makes sense: If you want to see the parade from the start, line R takes you straight to the staging area.

Trams - Regular Lines with Extended Hours

Lines 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 17, 26 run extended until approximately 2:30 AM. Frequency: every 10 minutes until 1:00 AM, then every 15 minutes.

These are regular ZTM lines, so standard tickets apply (4.40 PLN single or 4.80 PLN 75-minute). Most useful for Night of Museums:

Tip: Trams are faster than buses during peak Night of Museums hours (buses get stuck in traffic, trams use dedicated tracks).

Regular Buses with Extended Hours

Lines 116, 180, 190, 509, 517, 527 run extended until approximately 2:30 AM, every 10 minutes until 1:30 AM.

Vintage Vehicle Parade - 16:45

The traditional kick-off of Night of Museums: a parade of vintage buses and trams. Formed near Woronicza Depot and Pl. Pi艂sudskiego (TBC - exact start point published by ZTM 7 days before the event).

The route typically runs through Aleje Ujazdowskie, Krakowskie Przedmie艣cie and Plac Zamkowy, ending at the Old Town. Lasts about 30 minutes.

When it makes sense: A great kickoff for the whole evening. Watch the parade from the curb, then dash to your first museum (Museum of Warsaw opens at 18:00, several at 19:00). Don’t plan more than 30 minutes for it - the parade is an attraction, not an information hub.

Bicycles - Veturilo and Bike Paths

Veturilo (city bike sharing) operates 24/7, with active bike redistribution in museum-heavy zones. Stations are located near most museums participating in Night of Museums. The nearest stations are listed on each event page at nocmuzeow.um.warszawa.pl.

Tip: A bike is the optimal mode for 1-3 km distances downtown, where car traffic crawls. Use the bike paths along the Vistula (Wybrze偶e Ko艣ciuszkowskie, Wybrze偶e Gda艅skie, Wybrze偶e Szczeci艅skie) instead of main streets - safer and faster.

App: Veturilo (iOS, Android) - check bike availability at the station before walking over.

Cars and Parking

Short answer: Don’t plan to drive into downtown on Night of Museums. Some streets are closed, parking is hard, and the metro until 2:30 AM is faster.

If you must drive (e.g. with kids from distant suburbs), here are the sensible strategies:

P+R (Park and Ride) Lots

Free with a public transport ticket. Three locations on metro outskirts:

How it works: Park at the P+R, buy a ZTM ticket (e.g. 24-hour for 18 PLN, valid for the whole person + parking), and hop on the metro.

Downtown Parking (paid)

If you must park closer:

Parking Near Museum Clusters

ClusterRealistic availabilityAlternative
Old TownNo spots within 500 m. Parking attempts are wasted time.Plac Defilad parking (10 min walk) or metro to 艢wi臋tokrzyska
Citadel / 呕oliborzVery limited, streets around the fortress usually full.Tram 17 (to Marymont, then 5 min walk) or museum line F

If you live outside downtown and are planning a museum evening, here are the most sensible connections:

From Wilan贸w

From 呕oliborz

From Praga

From Ursus, Bemowo, Bielany

From Praga-Po艂udnie, Targ贸wek

Pro-tip - Apps and Tickets

Three apps worth having on your phone tonight:

  1. Jakdojade or Moovit - real-time route planning, accounts for delays and detours. Don’t rely on schedules from the ZTM app - on Night of Museums schedules are informal.
  2. mobiWAWA, mobilet or SkyCash - tickets on your phone, no need to find a vending machine. The 24-hour ticket (18 PLN) pays off if you plan more than 4 trips.
  3. Veturilo (if you plan to bike) - check station availability before heading out.

24-hour ticket vs single tickets:

Free lines (A, B, C, D, E, F, M, R) require no ticket during Night of Museums hours. Rest of the network - standard ZTM tickets.

Practical tip: Between 22:00 and 1:00, lines heading downtown are overloaded. If you’re planning to head home, leave no later than 1:30 - after that, intervals between metro trains widen to 15 minutes.

What Went Wrong on Past Nights of Museums (and How to Avoid It)

Bridge traffic. The Vistula is an obstacle. 艢l膮sko-D膮browski Bridge (buses 175, 162) and Poniatowski Bridge (cars) can stand still. 艢wi臋tokrzyski Bridge (tram 7, bus 102) and Gda艅ski Bridge (trams, cars) tend to be better. Most reliable crossing: metro M2 (under the Vistula).

Missed last trip. Suburban lines and some regular ones don’t have extended hours. Check the last trip to your district in Jakdojade - don’t leave it until 2:00.

Crowds at Copernicus Science Centre. The CNK bus stop (on line F) and the Centrum Nauki Kopernik metro station (M2) get crowded between 19:00 and 21:00. If your route is “CNK + something else,” arrive at CNK before 17:00 or after 21:00.

Line 175 (Chopin Airport) is regular. The airport line doesn’t have extended Night of Museums hours. If you’re flying in for the event, check the last departure (usually around 22:30).

Driving in Praga during the Tram Festival. Some streets near Praga Depot (Kaw臋czy艅ska, 11 Listopada) get closed. Don’t plan to park there.

What We’ll Confirm Closer to the Date

ZTM publishes final schedules for museum lines typically 7-10 days before the event. Specifically:

We’ll update this guide once ZTM announces final data. Also check ztm.waw.pl/komunikacja-na-noc-muzeow-2026 and nocmuzeow.um.warszawa.pl/?page=tr.
