Night of Museums Warsaw 2026 Beyond Museums - 45 Courts, Ministries, Embassies and Palaces Open for One Night

Night of Museums is not only about museums. On May 16-17, 2026, Warsaw also opens its courts, ministries, embassies, universities, monasteries, archives, churches, a nuclear bunker and a historic storm sewer chamber. Altogether we counted 45 non-museum venues with a dedicated NM 2026 program. Most of them cannot be visited any other night of the year.

This guide is for people who have already seen the Warsaw Rising Museum and Copernicus Science Centre, and want something different. For example: walking into the Sejm’s main chamber. Entering Belweder Palace. Descending into the basement of the communist-era secret police at Pałac Raczyńskich. Playing a chess tournament at SGH. Or walking the metro depot tracks at STP Kabaty.

One critical detail: 12 of these places require advance registration, and slots typically sell out within hours. Details below.

Top 5 Places to Start With

If this is your first time visiting non-museum venues on Night of Museums, these five give the best return on a queue-hour or an evening spent:

1. Warsaw Regional Court (al. Solidarności 127) - from 18:00, no registration. Photography exhibition, Court Police demonstrations, detainee holding rooms. Rare chance to see the inside of a working court.
2. Supreme Administrative Court (NSA) (Boduena 3/5) - 100th anniversary of the NSA, a staged court hearing reenactment, Court Police. No registration.
3. European Picnic - French and German Embassies (Jazdów 9/12) - afternoon and evening in the gardens of two embassies. Picnic, music, meetings with diplomats, food stalls, kids’ activities. No registration, but security check at entry.
4. Hungarian Cultural Institute (Moniuszki 10) - “●hu cafe”, Duologue exhibition, three film screenings at 19:30, 21:30, 23:00. Program runs past 23:00, no sign-up.
5. MPWiK - Lindley Storm Overflow Chamber (Jagiellońska x Ratuszowa) - descent into the 1908 heritage chamber. Open only on Night of Museums, 17:00-22:00. No registration (corrected from 2024 program), but adults only and dry weather only.

Separate Warning: STP Kabaty

Kabaty Metro Technical and Maintenance Depot (Wilczy Dół 5) is the only chance of the year to walk into the repair hall, see the central dispatch, and the “mushroom” cooling tower above the station. The catch: registration opens around 14 days before Night of Museums at kmmetra.pl and sells out within hours. Your PESEL (Polish national ID number) is checked on arrival. Tour window 19:00-22:30, transported by special shuttle bus from Ratusz Ursynów. Historically about 2,000 visitors per night in groups of 50 with a guide. If you want in, check kmmetra.pl daily from early May.

Venues Requiring Registration - Sign Up Early

Ordered by urgency. Without registration you do not get in.

Registration tactics: Open the list in the middle of the first week of May. Start with STP Kabaty (disappears first), then ArcelorMittal, then SGH chess. The rest have more time.

Five Themed Routes - Pick by Interest

Unlike the museum clusters (Old Town, Citadel), these venues are scattered across Warsaw. You cannot walk between them. Below are five suggested themed routes - each assumes public transport or a bike.

1. Power Route - Sejm and State Buildings (from 17:00)

For anyone interested in politics and representative architecture. All stops are in Śródmieście, within tram range or a 20-minute walk.

• 17:00-18:30 - Belweder (Belwederska 56). Queue. Groups of 25, photo ID required.
• 19:00-20:30 - Sejm of the Republic of Poland (Wiejska 4/6/8). Long queue, ID required. Main chamber, gallery, Columned Hall, corridors.
• 21:00-22:00 - Ministry of Finance (Świętokrzyska 12). Email registration required - 30-minute slots.
• 22:30-23:30 - Ministry of Culture (Krakowskie Przedmieście 15/17). Courtyard + “Window on Culture” gallery, no registration.

2. Law Route - Courts and Justice (from 18:00)

For visitors who want to see Polish courts from the inside. Ties naturally to the Power Route - the Ministry of Justice is near Belweder.

• 18:00-19:30 - Warsaw Regional Court (al. Solidarności 127). Photo exhibition + Court Police + detainee holding rooms.
• 19:45-21:00 - Supreme Administrative Court (Boduena 3/5). 100th anniversary of NSA, staged hearing reenactment. Court Police demos.
• 21:30-23:00 - Ministry of Justice (Pałac Raczyńskich, Al. Ujazdowskie 11). Main attractions walk-in: palace tour, prison art, “Justice Board Game”, Prison Service patrol car. Secret police basement - groups of 20, ages 16+, queue at basement entrance.

3. Embassy Route - European Picnic and Culture (from 17:00)

For families and visitors who like a festival atmosphere. The European Picnic is the only route with outdoor kids’ programming.

• 17:00-20:00 - European Picnic, French and German embassies (Jazdów 9/12). Picnic, meetings with diplomats, concerts, food, kids’ activities. Security check at entrance - real queues.
• 20:30-22:00 - Hungarian Cultural Institute (Moniuszki 10). ●hu cafe, Duologue exhibition, films at 19:30 or 21:30.
• 22:30-23:30 - Embassy of Iceland (Armii Ludowej 26), registration only. Aurora Borealis, culture, film.

4. Scholar Route - Universities, Archives, Libraries (from 18:00)

For the technically and humanities-minded. Warsaw University of Technology is near plac Zbawiciela, SGH in Mokotów - metro connects them.

• 18:00-19:45 - Warsaw University of Technology (pl. Politechniki 1). Labs, demos, concerts. Group walks need a pass - queue from 18:00 for the 18:00, 18:45 or 19:30 walks.
• 20:00-22:00 - SGH (Rakowiecka 22B + Batorego 8). Architecture walk with Prof. Leśniakowska 20:00-21:00 (30 people, Facebook sign-up) and Chess Night at SGH - three tournaments (20:00, 21:00, 22:00, 40 boards).
• 22:30-23:30 - University of Warsaw Library BUW (Dobra 56/66). Walk-in visit, rooftop garden, special collections.

5. Industry Route - Utilities and Rarities (from 17:00)

For visitors looking for something no museum has. This route involves longer travel times.

• 17:00-19:00 - MPWiK, Lindley Storm Overflow Chamber (Jagiellońska x Ratuszowa, Praga Północ). 1908 heritage chamber. No registration. Adults only, dry weather only.
• 19:30-21:30 - Huta ArcelorMittal, nuclear bunker (Kasprowicza). Registration required. Groups of 20, 1950s-era shelter.
• 22:00-23:30 - Simair Flight Simulation Center (Taśmowa 8). Phone reservation required. Boeing 737 MAX + cabin crew, Airbus A320, Cessna, VR fighter jets.

Add MPO Warsaw (Tatarska 2/4, Wola) for families - garbage trucks, a 1968 Mercedes Kurzhauber, “Mini Landfill” workshops, plant seedlings exchanged for e-waste. No registration.

IMPORTANT (MoJ basement): The exhibition shows an authentic 1945-54 Ministry of Public Security detention arrest. Ages 16+.

Ministries and Central Authorities

IMPORTANT (Belweder): The current Belweder serves the Presidential Chancellery and is located at Belwederska 56 (not Al. Ujazdowskie 4 - that is the historic location). Explosives screening + photo ID required. Real queues, recommended arrival 16:30-17:00.

IMPORTANT (MPWiK): The MPWiK Lindley program does NOT require registration. If you saw otherwise (including in the 2024 coverage), that is incorrect - MPWiK’s primary source explicitly states “no registration or sign-up required”. Entry only in dry weather, adults only (no children).

Transport and Metro

NOTE: The R-4 Żoliborz tram depot (ul. Zgrupowania AK Kampinos 10, Bielany) is not a tourable venue during NM - R-4 cars only run on Line M. The 2025 Tram Festival took place at the Praga depot (11 Listopada), not R-4.

Pro-Tip: Bring Photo ID

Courts, the Sejm, ministries and some embassies check ID at entry. Easy to forget on a Saturday-night outing. Specifically:

• Sejm of the Republic of Poland - ID mandatory, security check + metal detector gate.
• Belweder - photo ID, explosives screening.
• Warsaw Regional Court, NSA - historically check ID at entry.
• Ministry of Justice - secret police basement - 16+ (age may be verified).
• European Picnic (French + German embassies) - security check, ID recommended.
• STP Kabaty - PESEL verified against registration.
• Huta ArcelorMittal - ID at plant entry.
• Embassy of Iceland - ID may be checked.

If you plan to visit two or three of the above in one night, put your ID in your pocket.

Practical Tips

Getting there: Unlike the museum clusters (Old Town, Citadel), these venues are scattered across the city. The Night of Museums 2026 Planner shows them all on one map.

Transport: Night of Museums runs a Line M tram (heritage trams on Aleje Jerozolimskie, 18:00-24:00) and shuttle buses to outlying venues (STP Kabaty from Ursynów, Dewajtis from Bielany, Hery for Huta ArcelorMittal). Details at ztm.waw.pl.

Queues: Historically the worst queues are Sejm (up to 3 hours), Belweder, French + German Picnic (security check), Philharmonic (limited hall capacity). Lightest queues are at courts, ministries (Health, Culture), archives.

Tour or free-roam? Venues marked “guided tour” (Camaldolese Monastery, AAN+NAC, Politechnika walks) or “group of 20/25/30” (MoJ basement, Belweder, Teatr Polski) require arrival at the specified time. Venues without this constraint (Sejm, Philharmonic, MPWiK, MoH) can be visited whenever during opening hours.

Official program: As of publication (April 23, 2026), the official portal nocmuzeow.um.warszawa.pl still does not render the full 2026 program. The official list of participants and final hours will appear around May 8-12. Most of the information in this guide comes from institutions’ own pages (ministry BIPs, gov.pl, embassy sites, university sites) or from strong precedents in the 2024-2025 editions, which institutions repeat year-on-year.
