Night of Museums Warsaw 2026 Beyond Museums - 46 Courts, Ministries, Embassies and Palaces Open for One Night

Night of Museums is not only about museums. On May 16-17, 2026, Warsaw also opened its courts, ministries, embassies, universities, monasteries, archives, churches, a nuclear bunker and a historic storm sewer chamber. Altogether we counted 46 non-museum venues with a dedicated NM 2026 program. Most of them cannot be visited any other night of the year.

This guide is for people who have already seen the Warsaw Rising Museum and Copernicus Science Centre, and want something different. For example: walking into the Sejm’s main chamber. Entering Belweder Palace. Descending into the basement of the communist-era secret police at Pałac Raczyńskich. Playing a chess tournament at SGH. Or walking the metro depot tracks at STP Kabaty.

One critical detail: 12 of these places required advance registration, and slots typically sold out within hours. Details below.

Full list of 80 museums from Night of Museums 2026 - with opening hours, map and suggested routes - in the Night of Museums Warsaw 2026 archive and the route planner.

Top 5 Places to Start With

In the 2026 edition, these five gave the best return on a queue-hour or an evening spent - and they are the ones to start with when planning for the next edition:

  1. Warsaw Regional Court (al. Solidarności 127) - from 18:00, no registration. Photography exhibition, Court Police demonstrations, detainee holding rooms. Rare chance to see the inside of a working court.
  2. Supreme Administrative Court (NSA) (Boduena 3/5) - 100th anniversary of the NSA, a staged court hearing reenactment, Court Police. No registration.
  3. European Picnic - French and German Embassies (Jazdów 9/12) - afternoon and evening in the gardens of two embassies. Picnic, music, meetings with diplomats, food stalls, kids’ activities. No registration, but security check at entry.
  4. Hungarian Cultural Institute (Moniuszki 10) - “●hu cafe”, Duologue exhibition, three film screenings at 19:30, 21:30, 23:00. Program runs past 23:00, no sign-up.
  5. MPWiK - Lindley Storm Overflow Chamber (Jagiellońska x Ratuszowa) - descent into the 1908 heritage chamber. Open only on Night of Museums, 17:00-22:00. No registration (corrected from 2024 program), but adults only and dry weather only.

Separate Warning: STP Kabaty

Kabaty Metro Technical and Maintenance Depot (Wilczy Dół 5) is the only chance of the year to walk into the repair hall, see the central dispatch, and the “mushroom” cooling tower above the station. The catch: registration opened around 14 days before Night of Museums at kmmetra.pl and sold out within hours. Your PESEL (Polish national ID number) is checked on arrival. Tour window 19:00-22:30, transported by special shuttle bus from Ratusz Ursynów. Historically about 2,000 visitors per night in groups of 50 with a guide. If you plan to try during the next edition, watch kmmetra.pl from early May.

Venues That Required Advance Registration

Ordered by urgency. Without registration you did not get in - and the registration pattern repeats from edition to edition, so treat this list as a map of what to expect next year.

Politechnika Warszawska - 200-year anniversary and 7 buildings in one night

In its 200-year anniversary year, Warsaw University of Technology opened 7 buildings across 5 locations, on May 16, 2026 from 18:00 to 23:00, free entry. Scale comparable to the major museum routes (Citadel, Old Town), but concentrated within a few Śródmieście streets (Pl. Politechniki, Waryńskiego, Koszykowa, Nowowiejska).

Starting point and entry passes: Gmach Główny (Main Building) of Warsaw University of Technology, Pl. Politechniki 1, reception, from 18:00. Entry passes are free but limited per activity. The fastest to run out were passes for the rooftop skylight, lasers, and Hala Wysokich Napięć (High Voltage Hall).

Five Themed Routes - Pick by Interest

Unlike the museum clusters (Old Town, Citadel), these venues are scattered across Warsaw. You cannot walk between them. Below are five suggested themed routes - each assumes public transport or a bike.

1. Power Route - Sejm and State Buildings (from 17:00)

For anyone interested in politics and representative architecture. All stops are in Śródmieście, within tram range or a 20-minute walk.

2. Law Route - Courts and Justice (from 18:00)

For visitors who want to see Polish courts from the inside. Ties naturally to the Power Route - the Ministry of Justice is near Belweder.

3. Embassy Route - European Picnic and Culture (from 17:00)

For families and visitors who like a festival atmosphere. The European Picnic is the only route with outdoor kids’ programming.

4. Scholar Route - Universities, Archives, Libraries (from 18:00)

For the technically and humanities-minded. Warsaw University of Technology is near plac Zbawiciela, SGH in Mokotów - metro connects them.

5. Industry Route - Utilities and Rarities (from 17:00)

For visitors looking for something no museum has. This route involves longer travel times.

Add MPO Warsaw (Tatarska 2/4, Wola) for families - garbage trucks, a 1968 Mercedes Kurzhauber, “Mini Landfill” workshops, plant seedlings exchanged for e-waste. No registration.

Pro-Tip: Bring Photo ID

Courts, the Sejm, ministries and some embassies check ID at entry. Easy to forget on a Saturday-night outing. Specifically:

If you plan to visit two or three of the above in one night, put your ID in your pocket.

Practical Tips

Getting there: Unlike the museum clusters (Old Town, Citadel), these venues are scattered across the city. The Night of Museums 2026 Planner shows them all on one map.

Transport: Night of Museums runs a Line M tram (heritage trams on Aleje Jerozolimskie, 18:00-24:00) and shuttle buses to outlying venues (STP Kabaty from Ursynów, Dewajtis from Bielany, Hery for Huta ArcelorMittal). Details at ztm.waw.pl.

Queues: Historically the worst queues are Sejm (up to 3 hours), Belweder, French + German Picnic (security check), Philharmonic (limited hall capacity). Lightest queues are at courts, ministries (Health, Culture), archives.

Tour or free-roam? Venues marked “guided tour” (Camaldolese Monastery, AAN+NAC, Politechnika walks) or “group of 20/25/30” (MoJ basement, Belweder, Teatr Polski) required arrival at the specified time. Venues without this constraint (Sejm, Philharmonic, MPWiK, MoH) could be visited whenever during opening hours.

Where this data comes from: The guide was compiled on April 23, 2026, three weeks before the event, before the official portal nocmuzeow.um.warszawa.pl published the full 2026 program. Most of the information comes from institutions’ own pages (ministry BIPs, gov.pl, embassy sites, university sites) or from strong precedents in the 2024-2025 editions, which institutions repeat year-on-year. Entries marked “unconfirmed” never received confirmation in the official program before this guide was published.

Other Unobvious Places in Warsaw (Beyond the Night of Museums)

The Night of Museums opens these 46 venues for a single night. Hidden Warsaw has a second half, though: places that are neither museums nor Night of Museums participants, and that have no opening hours at all - you get in only when someone announces an open day. That is why you will not find a single date below. Each entry gives you something more durable instead: the name of the organiser whose announcements are worth following.

Elizeum pod Książęcem

An underground brick rotunda cut into the Vistula escarpment, built in 1776-1778 to a design by Szymon Bogumił Zug for Kazimierz Poniatowski, brother of King Stanisław August. It is the only surviving pavilion of the Na Książęcem garden. Barrel-vaulted corridors ring the central domed chamber on two levels; the dome spans 763 cm. Of the original decoration, only the coffer imprints, patches of plaster imitating artificial rock and a fragment of three-colour banded polychrome survive.

It sits in park Marszałka Edwarda Rydza-Śmigłego, where Książęca meets Kruczkowskiego in Śródmieście, a few minutes downhill from the National Museum. All you see above ground is a small opening in the grass. It is closed on ordinary days. The grounds are managed by the city parks authority, while access is controlled by the Biuro Stołecznego Konserwatora Zabytków, the city heritage conservator’s office - that is whose announcements to follow. The rotunda is also a regionally important bat hibernaculum (Natterer’s bat, on the EUROBATS list), which is part of why you cannot simply walk in: for the duration of the works the city built the colony a replacement chamber in the slope nearby. A conservation programme running since July 2025 and planned to mid-2028 is underway, budgeted at 4.9 million PLN (~€1.15 million).

Openings have been rare and always guided, with prior registration: European Heritage Days in 2012, 2016 and 2018, and the Night of Museums in 2018 (seven timed groups, one of them in English). An opening announced for the previous year’s Night of Museums was cancelled days beforehand after a technical fault. That is the most useful thing to know here: even an announced Elizeum opening sometimes gets pulled.

The Lutheran cemetery at Młynarska 54/56/58 in Wola was founded in 1792 and laid out by the same Szymon Bogumił Zug who designed Elizeum. The grounds themselves are freely accessible, but the grave chapels - Jung, Granzow, Halpert and Skwarcow - and the catacombs are locked on ordinary days. They are opened by the owner, the Holy Trinity Evangelical-Augsburg Parish, on guided walks, usually during European Heritage Days. This has recurred every few years, so the parish is the thing to watch. The cemetery is on the register of monuments, and the wider Powązki cemeteries complex was designated a Pomnik Historii, Poland’s top-tier national heritage status, in 2014.

Warsaw’s Historic Artists’ Studios

Not one address but a city programme protecting post-war artists’ studios preserved in situ - 33 studios on the published list, most of them in Śródmieście (18), then Mokotów and Wola (four each) and both Praga districts (three each). These are private studios and homes, so by definition there are no opening hours and no tickets. The programme is run by the Biuro Stołecznego Konserwatora Zabytków, which also announces the openings, including the Otwarte Pracownie Historyczne festival. Individual visits can be arranged in advance by writing to pracownie.historyczne@um.warszawa.pl.

How to track all this: the three sites are announced through two standing channels - the Warsaw heritage portal and the European Heritage Days event database. Registration typically opens a few days ahead and fills within hours. One more place belongs in this category: the William Lindley Filter Station complex on Koszykowa, a working water treatment plant and a Pomnik Historii, which you can enter only during the water utility’s summer open days, and which is suspended for security reasons from time to time. The filters do return for the Night of Museums, though, which makes them the one entry here that belongs to both halves.

About this guide: the list of 46 venues is built from institutions’ own pages (BIP, gov.pl, university and embassy sites) and from 2024-2025 NM precedents. Entries marked “unconfirmed” rest on those sources alone - the official program never confirmed them before this guide was published. STP Kabaty and MPO Warsaw details were verified directly against the primary sources (metro.waw.pl, mpo.com.pl).
