Best museums for kids in Warsaw -- where to take your children

Warsaw has a surprisingly good selection of museums where kids will not be bored. Below – the best ones, ranked from “must-see” to “if you have time.” Each tested on real children (and their patience).

The headliners

Copernicus Science Centre

ul. Wybrzeze Kosciuszkowskie 20, Powisle | kopernik.org.pl

Over 450 interactive exhibits across six permanent galleries. Kids can build bridges, program games, run electricity experiments and generate tornadoes. The Buzzz! zone is designed for the youngest visitors (under 6). The planetarium with 360-degree projections is a separate ticket but worth it.

Ages: 3+ (Buzzz!), 6+ (rest) | Time: 3-4h | Tickets: 37 PLN / reduced 25 PLN | Free Thursdays (permanent exhibition)

Tip: Buy tickets online in advance. Weekends and free Thursdays can sell out by 10:00.

Museum of Dollhouses, Games and Toys

ul. Podwale 15, Old Town | muzeumdomkow.pl

Over 150 dollhouses, some more than 200 years old. Plus a collection of board games and toys from the Communist era that parents will recognize from their own childhood. The exhibition is surprisingly absorbing – even teenagers tend to linger.

Ages: 3+ | Time: 1-1.5h | Tickets: ~35 PLN / reduced 25 PLN

Science and technology

Station Museum (Stacja Muzeum)

ul. Towarowa 3, Wola | stacjamuzeum.pl

A railway museum housed in the historic Warszawa Glowna station. Children can climb inside locomotives, sit in the driver’s cab and inspect an armoured train. Real carriages and steam engines stand outside. Perfect for small train enthusiasts.

Ages: 3+ | Time: 1.5-2h | Tickets: 20 PLN / reduced 12 PLN

NBP Money Centre (Centrum Pieniadza NBP)

ul. Swietokrzyska 11/21, Srodmiescie | cpnbp.pl

An interactive exhibition on the history of money – from shells through gold coins to cryptocurrency. Kids can weigh gold bars, design their own banknotes and learn basic economics through games. Admission is free, which is rare in Warsaw.

Ages: 7+ | Time: 1-1.5h | Tickets: free

Geological Museum (Muzeum Geologiczne PIG)

ul. Rakowiecka 4, Mokotow | pig.gov.pl

Meteorites, amber, diamonds, prehistoric animal skeletons and a dinosaur model. There is also a reconstructed cave you navigate with a flashlight. “Young Geologist” workshops teach mineral and fossil identification. A niche museum, but kids love it.

Ages: 5+ | Time: 1-1.5h | Tickets: ~10 PLN

Culture and creativity

Ethnographic Museum – Children’s Museum

ul. Kredytowa 1, Srodmiescie | ethnomuseum.pl

A dedicated Children’s Museum section with interactive exhibitions on world cultures. Kids explore the customs of different peoples through games, sounds and hands-on tasks. Regular workshops and performances. One of the few places where children are actually encouraged to touch the exhibits.

Ages: 4+ | Time: 1-2h | Tickets: ~15 PLN / reduced 8 PLN | Free Thursdays

E. Wedel Chocolate Factory

al. Emila Wedla 5, Praga Poludnie | wedel.pl

Chocolate-making workshops – kids touch, smell and taste at every stage. You can design your own packaging. Not a traditional museum, but an experience every child will remember. Booking required.

Ages: 4+ | Time: 1.5h | Tickets: ~50-80 PLN (workshop)

Kolejkowo Warsaw

Zlote Tarasy, ul. Zlota 59, Srodmiescie | kolejkowo.pl

A miniature city at 1:25 scale with over 5,000 figurines, trains and a moving day/night cycle. Not a traditional museum, but small children (2-8) are mesmerised. A visit takes 30-45 minutes.

Ages: 2+ | Time: 30-45 min | Tickets: ~35 PLN / reduced 25 PLN

Practical tips

  1. Book online. The most popular museums (Copernicus, Wedel) sell out on weekends.
  2. Start early. Children have the most energy in the morning – do not save the museum for the afternoon.
  3. Free days are a trap. The queues are long and the halls packed. If you can, go on a regular day and pay for a ticket.
  4. Pack food. Museum cafes are expensive and often have a limited menu. Sandwiches and water solve the problem.
  5. Strollers – Copernicus and Station Museum are stroller-friendly. Smaller museums (Dollhouses, Geological) can be tight.
  6. Age is a guideline. Every child is different, but “3+” really means from 3, not from 2.
