Museum for 1 PLN in Warsaw - which museums, who qualifies, how to buy

Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (MKiDN) runs a nationwide programme called “Muzeum za 1 z艂” (Museum for 1 zloty, roughly 0.25 EUR): anyone aged 8 to 26 gets into permanent exhibitions for a symbolic 1 PLN, year-round, at 18 state cultural institutions (Malbork Castle joins in October). Staff may ask for ID to confirm age. The 1 PLN ticket covers permanent exhibitions only - it does not apply to temporary exhibitions, special events, workshops, or museum-education lessons. This is a different offer from free-admission days or Museum Night: each of the seven Warsaw museums below sells this ticket on its own terms, so purchase method (register only, online, phone or email reservation) and the exact age wording vary institution to institution.

Below: the seven Warsaw museums in the programme, each verified on its own official site on August 21, 2026.

Royal Castle in Warsaw

plac Zamkowy 4, 艢r贸dmie艣cie district | zamek-krolewski.pl

School ticket (no audio guide): 1 PLN for pupils and students aged 7-26 with valid ID, covering the permanent routes (Royal Route, Museum Route, Castle Route, Palace Route). The Castle’s own age floor is wider than the MKiDN programme’s (7, not 8), so anyone eligible under “Museum for 1 z艂” also clears this bar. This is a separate offer from the free Wednesday route - do not confuse the two when planning a visit.

National Museum in Warsaw

Al. Jerozolimskie 3, 艢r贸dmie艣cie district | mnw.art.pl

“Bilet za z艂ot贸wk臋” (the 1-zloty ticket): children, pupils and students up to age 26 - 1 PLN, available only at the museum’s own ticket desk (not sold online). This is a separate offer from the free-Tuesday permanent-galleries policy - if you are under 26, the 1 PLN ticket works any day of the week, not just Tuesday.

Royal 艁azienki Museum

ul. Agrykola 1, 艢r贸dmie艣cie district | lazienki-krolewskie.pl

艁azienki runs a dedicated page for the programme: “Are you 8-26? At 艁azienki Kr贸lewskie you can see every permanent exhibition for just 1 PLN, all year round.” The age band and scope match the MKiDN programme exactly. This is a different offer from free Friday admission - the 1 PLN ticket works year-round, not just one day a week.

Museum of John Paul II and Primate Wyszy艅ski (Mt 5,14)

ul. Prymasa Augusta Hlonda 1, Wilan贸w district | mt514.pl

Children and youth up to age 26 are admitted for a symbolic 1 PLN, both as individual visitors and in educational groups (guided or unguided). Buy through the online shop (sklep.mt514.pl) or reserve by phone (+48 22 308 14 91). This is separate from the museum’s “Senior Weekend” offer (age 60+, also 1 PLN, but only on designated weekends) and from free-Thursday admission - keep the three offers apart when planning.

Wilan贸w Palace

ul. Stanis艂awa Kostki Potockiego 10/16, Wilan贸w district | wilanow-palac.pl

The palace and garden price lists carry a dedicated “Muzeum za z艂ot贸wk臋” line: ages 8-26 - 1 PLN, in both the palace and park tables. This is different from the group-only 1 PLN rate for children’s-home and care-facility groups (booked via dop@muzeum-wilanow.pl) and from free-Thursday admission.

POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews

ul. Mordechaja Anielewicza 6, Muran贸w district | polin.pl

POLIN states its own, slightly different condition: the 1 PLN ticket applies to children and youth aged 7-26 who are still within the education system, on presentation of a valid student card from a Polish school or university - a wider age floor than the MKiDN programme (7 rather than 8) but a narrower eligibility test (you must be enrolled, not just the right age). The ticket covers the core exhibition, “1000 Years of the History of Polish Jews”, with audio guide, plus the Legacy Gallery - it does not cover the temporary exhibition. Buy in advance online (bilety.polin.pl) or at the register on the day.

Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

ul. Marsza艂kowska 103, 艢r贸dmie艣cie district | artmuseum.pl

A dedicated programme page states the funding source directly: “Special tickets for visitors aged 8-26 are available thanks to funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.” Buy the 1 PLN exhibition ticket at the Museum Reception; for guided tours, reserve in advance (info@artmuseum.pl), subject to availability. This is separate from the museum’s after-18:00 evening discount.

What the 1 PLN ticket does not cover

The 1 PLN ticket only applies to permanent exhibitions, year-round, and each of the seven museums sells it on its own terms (register, online shop, or email/phone reservation - check the museum above). It does not cover: temporary exhibitions, special events, workshops, museum-education lessons, or other paid activities. This is a separate programme from each museum’s weekly free-admission day (Royal Castle - Wednesday, National Museum - Tuesday, 艁azienki - Friday, Mt 5,14 - Thursday, Wilan贸w Palace - Thursday, Museum of Modern Art - evening discount after 18:00) and from Museum Night - do not combine these offers when planning a visit.

Outside Warsaw, briefly

The programme also covers three institutions in the Mazovia region outside Warsaw’s city limits: the J贸zef Pi艂sudski Museum in Sulej贸wek, the Museum of the Cursed Soldiers in Ostro艂臋ka, and the Pilecki Family Home Museum in Ostr贸w Mazowiecka. This guide leaves them out on purpose - muzea.waw.pl covers museums within the city of Warsaw, and all three sit outside it.
