Motorsport, aviation and sport in Warsaw - where to see machines up close

Over 300 vehicles in a former car-factory paint shop, more than 50 locomotives parked on real tracks, tanks and MiG jets inside a 19th-century fort, horse racing at a track opened in 1939. Warsaw has no single grand museum of technology - instead it has a dozen places where you can get close to machines all year round. This guide collects them in one place: car and railway museums, a working airfield in Bemowo, a flight simulator, and some sporting adrenaline.

Machine museums open year-round

FSO / Museum in the Factory

Jagiellońska 88, former paint shop (Praga-Północ, east bank). The icon of Polish motoring. From the 1950s to the 1990s the FSO plant in Żerań assembled the Warszawa, Syrena, Polonez and licensed Fiat 125p and 126p - and the surviving paint-shop hall now houses a museum with over 300 vehicles, from pre-war passenger cars through racing machines to special-purpose and military vehicles. If communist-era motoring means anything to you, this is the strongest address in the city. Check visiting dates and rules with the organiser before you go - opening schedules change.

Railway Museum (Stacja Muzeum)

Towarowa 3 (Wola, west of the centre). Warsaw’s biggest railway museum: more than 50 locomotives on the tracks of the former Main Station, an EU07 locomotive simulator and interactive exhibits. Kolejkowo

Warsaw Towers, Sienna 39 (city centre). A miniature world built at 1:25 scale - running trains, a day-and-night cycle and over 5,000 figurines. Formally a model railway, in practice the most machine-minded attraction for kids in the centre. Details in the Kolejkowo profile.

LOT Polish Airlines Museum

Komitetu Obrony Robotników 43 (Włochy district, next to Chopin Airport). The LOT History Hall at the airline’s headquarters - memorabilia from 95 years of Polish passenger aviation: uniforms, models, posters and cabin equipment. Visits by prior arrangement - see the LOT museum profile.

Museum of Polish Military Technology

Powsińska 13, Fort IX Czerniaków (Mokotów, south of the centre). Tanks, MiG jets, a Katyusha rocket launcher and the Meduza bathyscaphe, set inside a 19th-century fort. Nowhere else in the city limits puts this much heavy hardware within touching distance. Hours and free days in the museum profile.

Ursus Factory Museum

Traktorzystów 14 (Ursus district, western edge of Warsaw). The collection of the former ZPC Ursus tractor works - vintage Ursus tractors and a 1936 Sokół 1000 motorcycle, around 400 exhibits shown in the Ursus Identity Hall after the demolition of factory hall 270. Warsaw Tram Heritage Room

J.P. Woronicza 27, Mokotów tram depot. Models of historic trams, uniforms, ticket punchers and the history of Warsaw’s rail transit - a small exhibition inside a working depot. Visiting rules in the Tram Heritage Room profile.

Aviation up close - Bemowo and simulators

Aeroklub Warszawski (Warsaw Aeroclub)

Księżycowa 1 (Bemowo, north-west Warsaw). One of Poland’s oldest civil-aviation institutions - based at Bemowo airfield since the late 1920s, close to 100 years in one place. Day to day it is a working airfield, not a museum: you can watch aeroplane and glider training and parachute jumps from around the perimeter throughout the season. Open events (air picnics, open days, Night of Museums) are announced on an ongoing basis - that is when the hangars and cockpits open up.

Simair Flight Simulation Center

Taśmowa 8 (Mokotów). A professional flight simulator available commercially all year - you book a session like a ticket and fly with an instructor at your side. The shortest route to a cockpit without a pilot’s licence.

Sport, racing and adrenaline

Służewiec Racetrack

Puławska 266 (Ursynów, southern Warsaw). Warsaw’s only horse-racing track and one of the city’s largest pre-war sporting investments - the complex opened in 1939, months before the war broke out. The racing season runs from spring to autumn; on race days the grandstands are open to the public, and the 1930s modernist architecture impresses even between races.

OSiR Wola swimming pools

Delfin (Kasprzaka 1/3), Foka (Esperanto 5), Nowa Fala (Garbińskiego 1). Three public pools in the Wola district that operate on normal hours all year round - and once a year, during the Night of Museums, have been known to stay open until 1:00 AM. Current hours and prices on the OSiR Wola website.

KochamSkakac trampoline park

al. Krakowska 61 (Włochy district). A trampoline park open year-round, with sessions starting on the hour. Kids jump from age 2.

Hackerspace Warsaw

Żelazna 103A (Wola). A grassroots technology club: electronics tinkerers, makers, retro-computing fans and builders of heavy machines sharing one space. It is not a museum - it is a working workshop that regularly hosts open evenings for the curious; dates in their calendar.

Night of Museums - machines by night, once a year

Once a year, in mid-May, the Night of Museums programme opens places that are normally off limits: the FSO hall at night, a glider cockpit at the Aeroclub, a historic railway signal box, a tram depot and swimming pools after hours. The 2026 edition (16-17 May) covered 12 venues from this cluster - the full table below is archival, and a good forecast of what tends to open every year.

All NM 2026 venues were free; Hackerspace was the only venue in the entire programme open until 5 AM. Two addresses in the table - the Tram Festival at the R-2 depot and the “Grzybek” signal box - are Night-of-Museums-only attractions: outside that one evening a year they are closed to visitors.
