Warsaw museums at Easter 2026 -- what is open and what is closed

Easter 2026 falls on April 5-6. Most Warsaw museums close for Easter Sunday and Easter Monday – but not all. Below you will find what is open, what is closed, and where to go during the long weekend.

Dates: Thursday April 2 – Monday April 6, 2026.

Note: April 5 is also the first Sunday of the month – normally free admission day at many museums. This year it falls on Easter Sunday, so most museums are closed and the free day is effectively lost.

Practical tips for Easter

  1. Friday April 3 is your best day. The most museums are open – National Museum, POLIN, Royal Lazienki, Warsaw Rising Museum. Plan your museum day for Friday.
  2. Monday April 6 is your second choice. National Museum (from 12:00) and Warsaw Rising Museum (from 10:00) – you can combine both in one day.
  3. Saturday and Sunday = walks. Almost everything is closed. But the parks are beautiful this time of year. Lazienki and Wilanow are excellent options for a family stroll.
  4. Book tickets online. Easter is a popular time for sightseeing – buy tickets in advance, especially for the Warsaw Rising Museum and National Museum.
  5. Double-check hours before you go. The hours listed here are based on information from March 2026. Museums may update them closer to Easter – always check the official website.
  6. Public transport. Buses and trams run on a holiday schedule on Easter Sunday and Monday (less frequent than usual).
  7. Smigus-Dyngus warning. Easter Monday is traditionally “Wet Monday” in Poland – people (especially children) splash water on each other. Walk near parks at your own risk.
