Day trips from Warsaw - four museums in the Mazovia region
Four museums in the countryside around Warsaw cover a stretch of Polish history the capital only tells in part: Radzymin, where the Battle of Warsaw was fought in August 1920; Józef Piłsudski’s home in Sulejówek; the Museum of the Cursed Soldiers in Ostrołęka, on the anti-communist underground after 1944; and the family home of Witold Pilecki in Ostrów Mazowiecka. Each closes on a different day and each has a different free day, so plan the trip from the calendar, not the map.
Everything below comes from the museums’ own websites, as of 2 October 2026. We do not have a full profile for any of them yet, so the links go straight to the museums. Their sites are mostly in Polish.
The four at a glance
| Museum | What it covers | Time | Full ticket | Free day | Closed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Museum of the Battle of Warsaw 1920, Radzymin | the 1920 Battle of Warsaw | not stated | 6 PLN (about €1.40) | Thursday | Monday |
| Józef Piłsudski Museum, Sulejówek | Piłsudski and Polish independence, the “Milusin” manor house | about 2 hours for the exhibition, about 1 hour for the house and garden | 26 PLN (about €6) | Wednesday | Tuesday |

How to combine them
- 1920 and Piłsudski: Radzymin and Sulejówek. Sulejówek is free on Wednesday, Radzymin on Thursday. Radzymin closes at 17:00, and in autumn you need to see the Sulejówek house before dark.
- The post-1944 underground: Ostrołęka and Ostrów Mazowiecka, at least two hours each. Both are open Wednesday to Sunday; on Saturday Ostrów is free.
- Without a car: Sulejówek, by train.
The Radzymin and Ostrołęka museums do not give travel times from Warsaw on their sites. Check your connection before you set off.
